Thanks to the commenter who reminded me that it's not bad to be reminded that the term is only a pejorative because conservative racists made it so.

Nope. One side are Nazis, dude. If you're not opposed to fascism, got some bad news for you...

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I guess the idea is that if you're spending all your energy being anti-MAGA then you aren't focussing on the real struggle (class warfare). But of course one can focus on class warfare while still being anti-MAGA.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I absolutely agree. And, the shit part of it all? It's been going on for pretty much all of recorded history (class warfare, that is).

Edit: To clarify my position a little, I see choosing MAGA as willfully submitting to the parasitic "elites".

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

tbh I kind of see both of the US parties as submitting to parasitic elites. I think MAGA is much worse for other reasons though.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 month ago

Well, I agree. However, I do not think opposing MAGA in any way implies supporting Democrats.

what does the small t stand for?

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

just to lend MAGA the sound of "maggot"

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

oh. Eh, they didn't need to change "woke" to make it a bad word, so I just use MAGA as-is derogatorily.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Bonus Points! That li'l "t" can be voiced with just breath alone as a "swallowed" or "glottal" fricative, (like the S. London "innit", etc.) for added & effortless effect whenever thinking/reading "MAGA" — aloud or to yourself. It works every time.

Every single MAGA idiot = MAGAt. There are many, many kinds, colors, stripes, shapes, sizes, etc. They're all maggots, though. And they might be known for devouring mountains of shit by the throatful, but they'll eat you too without hesitation.

Secondly, though? Let's do us all a favor and not use anything they do as a model of rational, much less good practices, hmm?

"They" didn't change "woke" because "they" don't change fuck all. Their minders tell them what to scream & froth over, and their psyops' flipping of "woke" is to target anything that doesn't come directly outta their Führder's prolapsed Putin-holes. Full stop.

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Seems kinda naïve to view it that way. Even trump-hating centrists use the word "woke" negatively these days. I'm not saying they're rational, I'm just saying you have to take the threat seriously.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Oh, I take it incredibly seriously, as indicated by how wistfully nonchalant my suggestions are.

Almost as if a fascist political party funded by the data & power barons that puppet the species has weaponized an originally Black American term to be incendiary against any topic they feel like — and there's fuck & all any of us can do about it. 😅

So, jokes it is. Gallows humor wins out sometimes, right? 🤷🏼‍♂️ Why, what you got on that plan?

Cool fallacy & us-them/with-us-or-against-us bias, bro.

Do we need our reading checked? Choosing neither (as they wrote) doesn't mean choosing fascism: it can still be opposed.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh boo hoo.

Have fun in your Nazi bar

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Have fun reinforcing fallacies & calling everyone who calls them out a nazi to achieve that optimal circlejerk. Self-confirmation bias is quite a rush.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have no idea what the hell you're even on about, dude.

But, no, if you do not oppose fascism, then you damn well do enable it. Whether you likes this or not doesn't change the fact that it's true. So go whine about your your moral high ground or where the hell you're on about as much as you want.

But since you are honestly sounding like you are attempting to defend fascism, I'm going to go ahead and permanently ignore your dumbass now...

I have no idea what the hell you’re even on about, dude.

That's called illiteracy. Please learn to read & comprehend reading. Maybe look shit up or crack open a book or just look at the words written in the comments carefully: where did anyone claim to defend fascism?

Just another illiterate narcissist confirming why woke has a bad reputation.
