yes, the current internet is full of safe spaces. as it should be. people deserve to feel safe.
you've basically gone into someone elses house and criticised them for not allowing you to track mud all over their floor.
Individual communities, sure, but not entire massive general instances. That's beyond stupid.
Instances are groups of like minded communities. To extend the earlier metaphor it'd be like going to a town that doesn't allow cars and you decide to ride your motorcycle down the sidewalks blasting all the houses with noize they don't want to hear.
they are individual communities. that's what federation is for.
It doesn't work so well when the majority of people are concentrated in one or another. It's like going into a Reddit admins pet project sub and then getting banned completely on Reddit because you broke that sub's rules.

I don't care if I'm wanted or not. I care if a large portion of the fediverse sees fit to censor opinions based on their feelings. Fine if you're moderator on a community based around something that doesn't fit your views but it shouldn't work the same for the entire instance. And it's only really an issue because lemmy.world It's like 90% of the fediverse. If it worked like it was originally designed, there wouldn't be massive controlling interests like Lemmy.world.
