They're less than useless for anyone that doesn't do a full clean shave. These guards are for trimming the length of the beard, not remove all of it.
Er...are scissors not a thing in your country? Look I understand why you think that I also swallowed the Phillips coolaid,but they're lying to you man. Men have had beard and mustache for a long long long time before eletric razors. So I'll ask a favour of you,try the safety razor/ scissors for a month. Then come bad and tell me I'm wrong. Don't buy into the disposal plastic propaganda, get a real razor,it's cheaper,nicer and better shave.
safety razor isn’t even slightly comparable and scissors… that’d take me like half an hour to properly trim my beard and it’d probably be patchy and uneven… i prefer the 5min it takes me now and i’ll pay for it thanks

you clearly don’t have a beard mate… i use 3 tools to trim my facial hair, and 1 of them is a safety razor… it is not an all-purpose tool: it does exactly 1 thing, and only 1 thing

In what world is a pair of scissors even remotely comparable to a razor!?
Have you ever tried trimming a beard with a pair of scissors? It's ridiculously hard to do well yourself (I've tried). It'll look like shit and take ten times as long as a good electric trimmer (which will also last you many years). Alternatively I could go to a barber, but that would set me back more than $100/month with trimming twice per month.

I have an electric razor from The Beard Club. My previous one was this Phillips, and it is leagues upon leagues better.
Yea but that's a bullshit razor. All electrical razor have built in obsolescence,and will never give you the closeness and longevity of a safety razor. It's just better in every way
Different uses. A bladed razor gives you a closer shave for sure, but I like a trimmed beard.
This Phillips one is bullshit, because it only works well without this guard, and then yes, you may as well use a safety razor.

This is where I get mine
I use a muhle (they sell them on the link.) I’d suggest starting with a closed comb head and whatever handle suits you. (They’re interchangeable,)
I use an open comb and it’s much more aggressive, and not for starting out.
I’d recommend staying away from the frequently recommended “entry” razor- the Merkur 34c. The head on the one I tried has a ridiculous amount of play in how it held the blade- it’d clamp down but it’d never consistently seat itself so it was always off center or twisted.
As for blades, I use feather, but you can buy variety packs and find the set that works for you. That tends to be the most variable part.
The guards on any razor can break, unless you're talking about a safety razor. Those are awesome, but only good for a close shave.
