Isn't lichess already the standard?

Not in all circles, unfortunately.

mostly because chess.com sponsers all the chess youtubers so all the YouTube videos show chess.com

Chess.com also has a friendlier and more fun user interface.

Been a while since I played anywhere tbh

In the chess streamer world, they all play chess.com because they get paid too. And there are gamification features like novelty 'bots' and daily rewards.

Lichess is much more serious and is solely focused on the chess experience

Ahh, that laird makes sense

Not sure, seems like a chess.com is still quite popular, but I'm not an expert by any mean

Me either. Totally filthy casual lol.

But I don't think I ever played a game on chess.com. Everyone I talked to that played, played on lichess

That's how I got into it. Was semi-tutored by a nice random person from /r/chess who took me under their wing (not very well, I'm still shit) but it works so well.

Now my family all use it and we all have a bunch of long format games on the go at any given moment. The only downside is that app notifications aren't always consistent. But the WebApp is great.
