The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

For awhile it was single downvotes, but it seems that moved up to 2-3 on each comment. Even the most benign stuff gets hit, the pattern is clear.

Can I find this person and block them from seeing my posts? Never really delved into how lemmy works.

Probably doesn't matter much because after awhile the forget and leave me alone for a bit.

I think what's difficult to grasp is how easy they kidnapped Maduro. If it's as easy as a few months of training, simulation and intelligence and then just do it, how is it possible that none of the other much worse world leaders have not had this happen to them until now? Has this ever even happened in recent history?

You're telling me the US had the capability to eliminate any of the worst ones in much more problematic countries and chose not to because there was no oil in it for them? That's a grim thought.

I see this on Imgur and Bluesky as well. Here's a great example, and the one that prompted me to finally ask. My daughter has autism and ADHD. She takes speed to slow down. Best friend is ADHD, same deal. But they're basically "normal" people. I'm truly sorry is this comes off as insensitive.

  • It's normal to be aware of how people perceive us. We are apes. Need I elaborate?

  • We ALL mess up more when someone is watching. Forget the word, but it's a well-known psychological tic.

  • Yes, we all conform and hide parts of ourselves in public, doesn't mean you can't "be yourself". Want to see someone who doesn't mask at all? Trump.

  • If you're not aware of threats, Darwin would like a word. And yes, many things we perceive as threats are dumb monkey perceptions. We're all silly in this way.

  • Uh, I double check my door locks. Not paranoid, but my situation in America makes that a simple, smart move. Some people live around lots of strangers, checking your private space is a normal thing.

  • We all hate being stared at. That's a monkey threat. We evolved that way.

The "suspicious sounds" thing is the only part I'd pick out as a bit strange. But who hasn't jumped when the ice maker kicks in? I've often thought someone crawled in the dog door. (A bear did one time, a hybrid wolf another, so let me slide on that one.)

I can go on /c/autism and pick 100 other memes for examples. Almost every single thing I see there, "Yeah, we all go though that/feel that way/do that thing." Here's one:

https://piefed.cdn.blahaj.zone/posts/6k/Lb/6kLbDigyQuftk4k.jpg

Doesn't everyone do that now and again?! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Serious questions:

  • Does lemmy have an above normal number of autistic/ADHD people?

  • Is this perception a way for young people to feel special and different?

  • Maybe young people don't realize just how fucking weird growing up is and think they have a problem?

  • Do people not realize that even after adulthood, we all have weird foibles?

  • Are people so socially isolated that they think their weird thoughts are uncommon?

Just want to start the discussion. Help me understand.

Okay, say there's a post that says something bad... what do I (or you) do? Do you upvote it because it's like "thank you for pointing this out", or does your upvote mean you support whatever the post says (which is kinda the opposite)?

This is super important and not sure how many people know what they're doing lmao

  1. Some of them talked me out of suicide. They didn't judge me or tell me "grow up, you crying miserable b***" they just listened, talked with me for a long time, related to me with their own things, and didn't make me feel guilty or like I'd done something bad by letting my emotions out. They were genuinely concerned for me and were almost like friends.

  2. When I was being harassed, they either dealt with them or offered me support/advice on what to do, and offered me encouragement, even if I was crying.

  3. Most of my friends at school were from this scene, and they were genuinely kind, loyal, and very funny people.

  4. One time I lost my purse and was freaking out. I was already having a bad day and some man who belonged to said subculture comes out of nowhere and finds it for me. Again, even though I was crying, he didn't judge me or insult me over it.

When I'm feeling depressed, I look up videos, posts, etc about the subculture, and it makes me feel comforted. Relived this subculture that's so sentimental to me is still going. Comforted, but also there's this bittersweet feeling, because I think none of those people I knew before are with me right now, I either lost contact with them or the men who talked me out of suicide don't hang out in the spot they hung out in anymore. Aside from therapists, they're the only other group of people I feel comfortable about opening up to. I bottle up my emotions normally. I feel like if this subculture died out tomorrow my world would feel a lot colder.

i know there are processes you must follow and not just any country will let you in, so what must someone look for when it comes to finding a new country? i might go to the netherlands because i wanna go there, but it may not be allowed given the circumstances. i ask because someone was asking what country should they live in and people were arguing over it.

I err on the side of thoroughness, but I use so much more time & water than others I see. I think I’m doing a better job… does it matter?

I want to watch an in-depth video of the minimum required washing. If you know or are a science educator (microbiologist? Epidemiologist?), maybe you can help :D

My understanding is that smell is a major factor in how food taste. So does smelling your food and becoming nose blind to the smell while cooking negatively impact how it tastes?

Seems like that is the default course of action when one country is doing a "bad" thing that the US or Europe doesn't like.

I'll admit that I don't really know how that works, or how it's enforced, or whatever. But could the EU and/or Canada or even China impose sanctions on the US now since the US is doing, um, very bad things?

Obviously I know ice is just solid water but would ice be heavier than the same volume of water if you account for the expansion of water as it freezes?

I'm only curious because I know that as water freezes it traps air molecules inside its crystalline structure so I was wondering if it trapped enough to cause a distinguishable difference in weight between the two states.

I’ll preface this by saying I’m an American who hates Trump, his regime, and everything they stand for.

Every president has done some version of Venezuela and they always justify it with some Bs so I got to thinking what would I do in a situation where I was president and my intelligence community showed me proof that some dictator in a country that doesn’t really like us was creating nukes. Assuming you have all the correct information and it’s 100% true of course.

You can go around and around saying you need more info and all that. Let’s just assume they are building nukes and you know they will use it as leverage to harm your people economically or militarily

Whether he dies, whether he's actually impeached and whether he does not try to install a third term. What should, pray hoping, a sane and reasonable president of the united states do when they're sworn in?

I think the president should take an entire year, bandaging, repairing and strengthening all and any ties with allies they'll somehow have remaining.

I was going to about say codify laws for them not to be messed with, but even codified laws can still be messed with. There must be a new way to instill laws that not even Congress can touch and fuck with. That no President after this one can touch. That no Supreme Court of any kind can touch.

Because what good will codifying something do if it's going to be overturned? We've witnessed that a few times. They would have to be part of the constitution at this point.

Obviously the next president that would-be, would have to spend another year and a half, rolling back, making their own executive orders to undo what shitstain has done.

I just feel like that, we need to stop the see-sawing actions of how politics are done in America. We need a president that means business. But, it appears to me that kind of president is all but imaginary.

Voicemail at 4 PM Sunday: Someone dropped out. We have a spot for you off of the waitlist for tomorrow morning, but you'll need to respond very quickly.

Text message 3 minutes later: Yes, as long as [contingency] is ok, I'd be happy to be there tomorrow.

[No response]

Email 15 minutes later: Hey, I sent a text message, but I'm also sending a follow up email letting you know I'd like to come as long as [contingency] is ok.

[No response]

Update: I am good to go. The phone # I texted did not receive texts, so this is a lesson learned to call back when someone leaves a voicemail. Thanks everyone.

So now we can add “directly capturing a sovereign leader” to the list of crap the US has done. So what do you think will actually be “the straw that broke the camels back” for world leaders to actually do something? Think it’ll be significant or something mundane?

I fear that nuclear war could be happening soon..

Global tensions seem to be rising, and superpowers are allowed to be more and more reckless. It feels like the third world war is imminent, a nuclear war which would end everything.

I am so scared.. I am so paralyzed to do anything now. Am I overreacting? Also, what should I be doing?

DISCLAIMER: I'M NOT FROM USA.

From the outside looking in, it seems like at least half of the inaction of the "left" is because ol' Chucky just hinders everything.

"We wrote a strong letter" was probably the first time I actually, genuinely didn't understand how he's still the leader of the party.

Since then I've done some digging, and it seems like the guy is actually quite delusional. Not even his imaginary friends vote for him, which is kinda sad. Understandable though.

Now he's talking about voting on whether they should block the military action in Venezuela. The ongoing one. The one that's been planned publicly for months.

So, how does he still have his job?

Hi, I remember once learning the word "depress" in third grade in my advanced class as in "to depress a button". I've only ever heard "press a button", does anyone still use "depress" in the context of to press down on?
