  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
  4. Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world

That's all I have to say about that.

My family moved up north recently, and given my wife has always loved Austin, TX since we lived there, I decided to get a housewarming gift for her.

I found an art shop in Austin and got a print on canvas of the skyline looking down south congress.

I knocked it out of the park and she's gonna cry immediately and i don't feel bad at all

Just letting it out because I'm proud and excited and can't tell her

Have you been rocking an old classic? Discovering something new? Revisiting some nostalgic bands from the past?

If you've got links, post 'em up!

Like, not bashing on dinosaurs and dinosaur lovers, just to me primates are cool, like they are basically me but hairy. And like what do you mean there is only 1 specie of humans alive today, where is my Homo Erectus Novo, or whatever name would be?

My partner just brought me three pop-open dough cans. They absolutely cannot stand the surprise from opening them. Basically the same hatred for the Jack-in-the-box toys. It's such a strange thing to me that I'll never understand.

15th of August was a holiday here, it felt quite nice to have an extra day to relax, then do errands on Saturday, then chill again on Sunday.

I just saw my wife do this for the first time last night. She was writing in a Thank You card with the card turned 90 degrees from what would be typically. She was writing from (to her perspective) the bottom of the card to the top, but each letter was turned 90 degrees so it looks fine from the side.

I've known her 20 years (dating or married for 19 of those and lived together for 10 years) and I was amazed to see her do something I've never seen before.

Can anyone else, or know someone who can, write like this?

On work days, after your alarm goes off, how long do you remain in bed before you actually get up?

What do you find yourself doing between that first alert and actually getting up?

Do you have wake up rituals?

How long do you let it continue?

Anyone who uses linkedin will recognize this. Guess it was just a matter of time.

Like, not the big dramatic stuff — I mean the tiny things you barely think about.

I was just reflecting on how many times something small ended up leading to something huge. For example:

When I decided to grab coffee at a different café and randomly mer someone who later became a close friend.

Saying “yes” to a last-minute invite and discovering a hobby that became a huge part of your life. In my example it was bouldering.

Now if I spin this further, if I hadn't gotten into rock climbing I probably wouldn't have injured my shoulder a year ago.

Now look at the other examples on this planet. A person who called in sick on 9/11 or missed that flight.

It's insane. If I wouldn't be writing this post maybe I would have gotten hit by a car?

six months after my last workplace went bankrupt, i'm out again. an international consultancy firm took me and all my colleagues in from the failing business and we got raises and bonuses... and now i've been let go. only me.

they've not managed to sell my skills anywhere for six months, so the decision makes economic sense, but... that just makes me feel useless. evidently the local office feels bad because they decided to pay out this month's salary in full, but that doesn't really help with the self-esteem.

after all the shakiness of the bankruptcy and being lied to about great numbers leading up to it, i just wanted some stability. but fuck me i guess.

...so how's your day?
