Caveat emptor buying music from Qobuz, always try bandcamp first.

Will have a look, my hamsters and I thank you.🐹🐹

Well, if I'm away and there's a fire or CO leak, by the time the neighbors notice, it might well be too late for my hamsters.

I'll just go ahead and take the liberty of blaming both.

Up until recently there used to be these special batteries you could put in your fire/smoke/CO alarm that would contact you on your smartphone if the alarms went off while you were away.

They don't make them anymore, and if you want anything equivalent, it seems like you have to buy into an entire "smart home control system" or whatever they're called, and I don't need or want that.

It doesn't have to be a battery, but is there some way I can set up my alarms to contact me without surrendering all my privacy? The alarms I have now also aren't hard-wired into the house, which could present a problem, but that's why the Roost batteries were so nice!

Was just about to post this before @yogthos@lemmy.ml beat me to the punch. 🙂👍

Why are so many projects still on Microsoft-owned github? They should follow OM's lead.

Thank you! 🙂

Asking because USPS's frequently doesn't work.

Probably not at the top of anyone's list, and a little bit old, but do you have any thoughts about the following?:

If the Reddit mascot's name is "Snoo," then the Lemmy mascot's name is . . . ?

Actually, what would probably be required would be the complete and utter destruction of the right-wing propaganda machine; Fox news and so forth. Even good counterprogramming by itself is probably not enough. A pretty heavy lift unfortunately, but I can dream.

If I had a phone set up like that, and, say, ICE or TSA took it, what would they be able to get from it? And I know that legally they can't make you give up your PIN, but what's to keep them from just beating it out of you? Cops of any stripe rarely if ever face consequences for their actions, especially in the US.

Possibly a dumb question, but what exactly constitutes a "US-based digital service?" For example, does that mean everything on github is off limits? I wouldn't think so (and actually I'm kind of surprised that so many projects stayed on github after it was bought by Microsoft). Me being me, I've started going through my various account entries on KeePass, and changing the favicon of the site/service with the flag of the country it's based in (to the best of my knowledge). Many of them will be US-based, and this is probably unavoidable, but the more I can reasonably minimize the number of 🇺🇸s, the better.

SearXNG does, I think...any others? Looking around for other engines that aren't US-based, though I guess DDG is still considered acceptable for LibreWolf's default engine. Bangs are incredibly useful!

I was able to change the new tab favicon on LibreWolf with CSS:

/newtab favicon/ .tab-icon-image[src="chrome://branding/content/icon32.png"] { content: url("librewolf-NO8X71.png") !important; }

But I'd also like to be able to change the logo that appears on the "about:logo" page (looks like lemmy.world's CSS page is locked for now, so I'm asking here). Anyone know how to do this?

I kiped the logo from LibreWolf's reddit page, it's by u/NO8X71; tell me it's not the coolest thing you've ever seen! Wish I'd done it.

Signal has a "Note to Self" option which basically lets you send texts to yourself for reminders, etc. Is there a way to do this with any of the various Matrix clients, and if so how?

I have some low quality scans of book pages, saved as a PDF, that I would like to enhance. Since they're text only, and the text is kind of faint, I think that using the erode filter on each page would probably work pretty well (it has in the past). The problem is, it would be nice to be able to use the erode filter on all the pages at once and not have to do each one individually.

When you open a single PDF page in GIMP, AFAICT, it imports it as an image file rather than a PDF, but I don't know what type of image. I installed BIMP to see if I could do a batch erode that way, but it wasn't able to do it. Is GIMP the way to go here, or would something like ImageMagick (which I know very little about) be better for this?
