I've had my own instance running on a puny 1VCPU/1G RAM instance at Vultr since the beginning of June and the resource usage has been negligible. Drive space is the largest resource it's consumed, it's at about 12GB of drive space consumed in a month.

You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

You'd have to have a separate cohort of non-plugin users & another with a sampling of both, I think. Run some regressions on those data and I think you'd be able to tease out any bias that exists.

I don't think the problem is so much profitability as it is the demand/expectation for endless growth. It becomes a positive feedback loop and is completely unsustainable after a certain point.

You know what else is endless growth? Cancer.

contributing to open source projects

You need to be careful with this point, because it becomes addictive.

It's 4AM and I just submitted a PR to the Liftoff app repo.

I think that'll always be the case with the Fediverse.

Request a GDPR takeout from reddit, wait for them to deliver, and then use a tool like Redact that can use that data to delete everything.

Make sure the networks section at the top of your docker compose file looks like this:

Which isn’t entirely accurate if at all. It extrapolates the dislikes from its own database ie users who have it installed. Compared to the entire user base of Youtube this is an incredibly tiny sample size.

You need a much, much smaller sample size than you think. Estimates for Youtube's monthly unique visits range from ~2 billion to about ~2.7 billion. For a 5% margin of error at a 99.9% confidence level, you'd only need to sample 1083 people to get an accurate sample size.

I'm positive that extension has more than 1000 users.

Look in to Rocky Linux. It was started by the original developer of CentOS the day Red Hat announced that CentOS would be moving upstream of RHEL. They've already put out an announcement saying that it's essentially going to be business as usual for them.
