All I'm saying is it's a positive change from what she's been saying. Up to now she hasn't even acknowledged the Palestinian side of it. I'm not for her and I'm not voting for her, I'm just slightly less disgusted by her. She was perfectly content before to tell arab voters to go fuck themselves and completely avoid the subject.

The reason I shared the video itself was to not overstate the change here.

Oh absolutely, only time will tell if she takes actual action and I have all the doubts in the world especially as long as Biden is in charge. This should have come months sooner, not two days before the election.

All that said, it's a notable change in rhetoric and it's a positive one which would have never happened if they weren't losing votes over it, if Trump weren't also trying to outflank her with anti-war/pro-arab rhetoric in Michigan. I'm choosing to lean optimistic that my liberal friends and family who vote for her are just stupid and ideologically self-defeating, not evil, and there's enough of us against the genocide that it's a real threat to their power.

She spoke of a diplomatic solution but yeah by all means, skip to 39 minutes in and judge for yourself.

Usually I have to start from a reel that a friend sent me, which I would want to see more of, to get good algo picks.

I like the dumb algo. Same with youtube shorts. Makes it somewhat easier to stop scrolling at some point and do something more productive with my time. I also get my short form content fix without getting sucked into the ecosystem/community/mentality of tiktok.

If it's any consolation, Kamala finally acknowledged what's going on in Gaza and ~~dropped (mostly)~~ reduced the israel defending itself framing at her rally in MI yesterday to state in no uncertain terms that she would put an end to palestinian suffering. Still too little too late for me to take her very seriously but the pressure appears to be working even with the libs doing everything they can to suppress it.

It's regular English, they're just swapping in different phonetic characters for some reason

Hard disagree on all points.

On the topic of changing minds I'm personally really interested in learning more about deep canvassing since I listened to the You Are Not So Smart podcast episode about it (I think that was the one at least, cant remember who turned me onto it but it was someone here on lemmy). Gonna hunt down some training when I get a chance. My life is also pretty hectic at the moment as I'm in the middle of becoming a homeowner (!)

And yeah I don't totally understand why .world is so rabid right now. Everything they're expecting from Kamala are almost total fabrications based on the optics of either party, conveniently forgetting that Republicans get whatever they want regardless of who's president and Kamala doesn't even dare to hint at ending that dynamic. It completely lacks any and all analysis on how all these reactionary bills are actually being passed, as in, today, right now, under Biden, and Kamala's total lack of a strategy to address that or win back any ground.

They don't even agree with the platform that they are voting for, it's just, "we can move her" and "she will listen" when she is clearly demonstrating that they cannot, in fact, "move her" and she is not listening and she isn't even running on anything they want. All they have is fear of what even Biden said is fundamentally no different from his own Admin. It's pure copium. sigh.

Side note, am I the only one noticing that the "BoTh SiDeS" argument used to refer to both sides being too extreme on opposite ends of the spectrum (y'know, bullshit that served republicans/enlightened centrists before MAGA came along), and now it's being thrown back at us leftists when we point out that both parties exist on the same end of the spectrum, in service of capital and rightward momentum? Hoping someone else can finish my thought there but it feels like a complete manipulation and rewriting of that fallacy. Maybe I understood it differently when I was a lib though.

Anyways, I realize I'm kinda off the rails and preaching to the choir now but it feels like theres fewer and fewer safe spaces to vent and discuss these frustrations as the election draws near.

Not sure why you would think Germany is the best in this respect as I've often heard the opposite in my travels there. They are very anti-tech in government, privacy/cybersecurity reasons are what's usually cited.

It's not "doing nothing" it's demonstrating that their "viable" candidate is not an acceptable candidate. You're demonstrating that the people reject them and that we have the power to prevent their victory, putting pressure on them to earn the votes of the people, necessitating changes to be made and concessions given if they wish to stay in power.

Unless they can convince all of you folks to abandon your blocs and "vote blue no matter who". Then they have free license to do whatever they want, and to let the other side continue being the bogey man that gets you to the polls, because without you your bloc is too weak to affect their victory.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy; by saying you are too weak to effect change and arguing as much instead of demonstrating in solidarity with other objectors that genocide is a policy that will guarantee defeat for the Democrats now and in the foreseeable future, because the other side is unacceptable (which implies that your side to you, even if genocidal, is acceptable, because of the comforts you believe they are promising over the other side), then you yourself are participating in the thing that is making you too weak to effect change and in the process throwing those people who are subject to the genocide under the bus in service of your own comfort.

I've noticed that inline images will render to fill the available width of the comment they're on. This is much too large for some images, such as emotes that only have so many pixels to display and thus get blown out and fuzzy. I would much prefer inline images to render in their native resolution up until they reach the width of the comment. Is there already a way to change this behavior or is it not something that has been implemented?
