It's worth giving the judge's letter a read. He had this distributed to all the people that wrote in on the defendant's behalf, since many people thought he was a good person and did nothing wrong. The judge set the record straight: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.227212/gov.uscourts.dcd.227212.272.0.pdf

Hi,

I normally post from an account on the sh.itjust.works instance and recently noticed that posts and comments to and from lemmy.world are getting delayed by a few hours.

I made this post (https://sh.itjust.works/post/17275496) to discuss on that instance, but you might not be able to see the comments over there, including responses from the admins, if you're using a .world account.

Full disclosure, I am not on the admin team over there, but based on their responses it sounds like something might be going on with the lemmy.world side.

Just wanted to bring it to your attention.

Thanks

Wow I just tried this and it really does work!

Glad to see it. I'm curious as to what that means practically. Does the court have the ability to force him to pay or can he just drag his feet indefinitely?

Jesus, that good air / bad air quote was hard to read. If I'm following him, and I might have too many braincells to do this correctly, he's arguing that we shouldn't have clean air because then someone else might benefit from our clean air? So we should just pollute the shit out of our air, because then at least the Chinese won't have a shot at getting any of our sweet, sweet clean air?

That's like saying you're not going to put indoor plumbing in your house, because your neighbor might not put indoor plumbing in their house. And if they're going to live up to their necks in shit, you'll be god-damned if you're not gonna live neck-deep in your own shit too! Otherwise, if you weren't absolutely drowning in your own shit, there's a chance that you might catch a whiff of your neighbor's shit, and ain't no way are you gonna let that happen.

Lmao, Trump got fined $10,000 on the spot for violating his gag order about shit talking the court staff. A small slap on the wrist, but I love the immediate consequence.

We already knew he was a Republican.

Using a bail bondsman is the exact opposite of spending the bare minimum. It's basically the equivalent of taking out a payday loan at a check cashing store.

Jesus Christ that lineup looks like a collection of old folks dressed up after Sunday church about to make some IHOP waitress's last few hours of her shift a literal hell on Earth.

And apparently he's listed as 6'3" weighing 215 lbs. That is not the face of a 215 lb person over 6 feet.

When sorting comments by Top, you can get a situation shown in the image where a child comment has more comments than the parent, causing the parent comment to be hidden. Clicking "View Parent..." scrolls down to the parent comment, but it's shown without the connection to the child comment - which is very confusing.

I can't think of a situation where someone would ever want to read a child comment without seeing the context of what the comment is replying to. Is there a way to disable this type of situation while still being able to sort comments by Top?

Yeah normally you get the full amount of bail back from the court. The 10% fee is what a bondsman charges as interest / risk of your fleeing.

To expand on why this isn't a good look - bail bondsmen typically charge a non-refundable 10% of bail. So if you're a former mayor who shit on your own legacy by trying to overthrow the government and your bail is set at $150,000 that means you're paying a bail bondsman $15,000 that you won't get back ever. That $15,000 is a fee that they apply in case they need to hire a bounty hunter to drag your delinquent ass to court.

A person usually tries pretty hard to raise bail without paying a bondsman because they don't want to lose that 10%. So this is basically the equivalent of Giuliani going to a Payday Loans lender to get an advance on his paycheck at a predatory rate.

Afterward, he told reporters, “I talked to the President [Trump] today. I wish him well.”

Isn't that against the terms set by the judge for Trump not to talk to con-conspirators?

Edit: The typo stays, since it fits.
