Do billionaires actually have billions in real money sitting around? I've always thought the billions were in stocks and couldn't be taxed until they cashed it out and they could technically lose everything if the stock price falls. That's really fucked up if true

I mean, TikTok was already bad to begin with but what did they do to deserve a spot next to Twitter? Did I miss something? Surely they can't do worse than trying to make their paid only, right?

Just like clicking on floppy disk save icons everyday when you've never held an actual floppy disk

I don't get how people expect services to stay free while also being against any kind of subscription or ads and barely donate to support these projects.

This isn't an essential feature they're paywalling. I don't even remember the last time I sent a voice note, let alone get one from a stranger. Feels more like a thank you from the devs for supporting them

I wonder how it'll work on sites like Reddit. Imagine paying for verification only to get downvoted and "silence brand"ed by people

Hyphen (-) means you don't want to see this word, while words surrounded by quotes (") means you want these phrases exactly.

Most symbols are also ignored, which is great for an average user but terrible for programmers.

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. I thought it was either my client or lemmy.world being slow today, but I also tried posting the same reply through the website and it was still posted as a parent comment.

holy shit, imagine spending $44 billion just to use a domain you've been squatting since the Netscape era

Please do NOT do this to your cat! Cat can learn to pick up human behavior and once the cat becomes too familiar with the mic, they'll invite a couple friends over and start a podcast together

it's more amusing than sad to watch these out of touch CEOs burn their company to the ground in an attempt to find extra pennies in the couch cushions.

I'll miss Reddit, but federated social network is the right step forward and I hope we can rebuild what we had

Elon is a genius! He removed the bird, symbolizing the loss of freedom for its user and his company's inability to soar to great heights.

The bird leaving indicates an impeding catastrophe about to hit his company and the new symbol "X" is just as clever, because that's the sign people will click on when they go uninstall the app. Soon, the relationship between Twitter and its users will be nonexistent, just like Musk and his "X" wives
