Sadly the only way to know for sure is to test brain tissue, including in people, so there's no way to be certain without killing the potentially infected animal/person.

There are a bunch of tests they can do for people that can potentially identify rabies (lumbar puncture, CT and MRI scans, skin biopsy, antibody test) but apparently it can still be easily missed even with all of these tests so they aren't enough for an accurate diagnoses.

Unfortunately quarantine and observation isn't effective as a testing strategy for animals, the disease can progress at different rates and it's possible for infected animals to show no symptoms. As rabies can't be treated after symptoms start showing, they can't take the time to do this.

The main change was the chapter" riddles in the dark" - in the original printing Gollum willingly handed the ring over when Bilbo won the riddle contest. He did attempt other changes but these were rejected as they changed the tone of the book to much. He did make some later edits post Lord of the Rings due to the US copywrite expiring but these mostly changed minor lore details to bring it in line with the silmarillion.

I'm surprised he'd want to come back - I'd heard really hurt his back filming the first movie and it happened again in the second one. Something about having to carrying both movies single handedly...

You body begins to die a painful but probably mercifully quick death. Hormones are vital to your bodies continual survival and even if you targeted specific ones, you'd just be creating problems for yourself. Elimated dopamine? Congrats you've given yourself ADHD and a host of other personality problems. Melotonin? Oops no more sleep for you, enjoy your sudden weight gain and compromised immune system. We don't take hormones, we are hormones.

The ruse was a success - they've finally revealed their location, send in the retrieval team. Their fines will pay for a new library.
