I remembered seeing some drama between the two instances from before I moved over to db0, so I just assumed off the back of that, but good to know, thanks! Definitely don't go looking for them, I have better things to do with my time and little remaining sanity lol

the glorious Chinese workers paradise

The scary thing is they genuinely believe this.

I had responded to a tankie who claimed that China wasn't an oligarchy by sarcastically asking if they thought the workers control the government, and like 5 different (or are they?) hexbears descended on me to tell me that yes, akshually, they do (and therefore must be the most self loathing workers on the planet, if those are the conditions they inflict on themselves, and curiously keep "electing" the same authoritarian, billionaire, dictator to be at the top of their ~~classless~~, ~~moneyless~~, ~~stateless~~ society). 🤦‍♀️

E: on a side note since I've got you here and you're an admin, I thought this instance was defederated from hex, and I have them on my personal blocked instance list, should I still be seeing their users?

Lol, I got a similar removal and ban (rule 1, 2*) the other day for replying to someone who mentioned credit ratings as a counterpoint to the attempts to discredit the existence of "social credits" (or whatever actual system exists in China, and it does exist, to keep tabs on their population):

This right here.

And the point is that an average American barely knows how those work, or exactly what information the government and or private financial and other companies collect about them (it's a lot) or how much it impacts their daily lives (deeply), in the same way the average Chinese person barely knows just how much surveillance their government is doing on them (it's a lot) or how much it impacts their daily lives (deeply).

This post is such tankie bullshit.

Pretending like only one government does (internal and external) propaganda, or only one government is oppressing and lying to its own people (not to mention people in other countries), or that the average person in any country know, or is willing to admit to themselves, never mind others, and especially never mind people from a country you've been propagandised against from birth, the flaws of their own government is not only laughable, and hypocritical, but also massively counterproductive.

*as you can see, the ban is really for calling OP "tankie bullshit" and *gasp* pointing out that China is bad in the same ways America is bad. Such fragile egos lmfao

Now to reply to the post itself, I think this sums it up:

As we say in Germany, if there's a Nazi at the table and 10 other people sitting there talking to him, you got a table with 11 Nazis.

Though the sad truth is that almost every single product or service we use are owned and run by people with similar opinions, it is literally the nature of the capitalist beast, it's how it function, and why it will always decay in to fascism - because those with the power and the money (not just those at the very very top, but several levels bellow them, too, like this guy) will always and forever care solely about maintaining it and creating more for themselves, that's it. And to do that, they have to side with whichever dictator-du-jour benefits them the most.

Remember - there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and this is only one of the reasons why.

I can't be the only one who struggled to read that, and for general accessibility purposes since I'm already here:

"The point is that fighting for a more just and equal society is not just about fighting for the fundamental right to privacy but also for all other fundamental rights, including individual rights and life. When you, as the CEO of a company that starts from these principles, nod positively to whatever action a political figure like Trump, who is known for always flagrantly putting his private interests ahead of those of his own nation, makes speeches about eliminating minorities, hurting their rights as citizens and flirting with Nazi movements, it is understandable that members of the privacy community are disappointed as this reveals a little about who is being the face of a company that should follow contrary principles. But now we really know what "freedom" means to you."

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but sadly people wouldn't listen, they were (rightfully!) so desperate to get the tories out, they didn't want to hear that the establishment had arranged for them to be voting another one straight in.

And they also don't want to hear that this was entirely intentional, that it is a well established way of getting the blue tories back in and worse than ever next election, and that continuing to play this silly game of "vote for one of the two people we've approved for you to vote for" is ever going to benefit us as a society, but only the ones manipulating us in to keeping them in power.

And so the exact same cyclical shit will keep happening.

“This also highlights the fact that people are thirsty for platforms that aren’t controlled by the same few oligarchs,”

So they move (and apparently willingly provide more access to their info than they already need to) to a platform that is controlled by a different few oligarchs, as a treat.. 🙄

Also, you say we're right here, but the number of people already here praising this shit* because they're either tankies simping for faux communists, or simply too indoctrinated to realise that you don't have to choose one, and can oppose both oppressive states (which use almost identical tactics), is pretty fucking gross.

*and before they descend on me with their bullshit and excuses and their throwing of marginalised people under the bus for the sake of maintaining their own black and white view of the world - yes Chinese and American people communicating and breaking down barriers is good. However the idea that this can honestly and freely be done on their oppressive state controlled media, any more than it can on ours, or that one is somehow less oppressive than the other, is a joke, and so are the people ignoring the fact that both states have equally terrible mass surveillance and control over our communications.

I wasn't going to engage, because lets be honest, there's no point, but I happened to scroll past these the other day, and you've given me a good opportunity to use them, and others might enjoy, so:

"but if we don't have the statemurder squad, who will fill out paperwork after my house is robbed and laugh when i ask will i get my stuff back"
