And they'd make a sort of introduction post for their server, asking to be federated. Yeah, there was a kind of simplicity that's been lost the more people got in.

I'm more of a deserter than a refugee. My first Lemmy account must be 5 or 6 years old at this point; I was there in the background when the magic was written π. Over time, my activity on reddit gradually decreased, and I stopped using it some months before the API exodus.

It might be my ND brain taking "commend" too literally, but I'd rather frame my support as acknowledging Hamas as a proper resistance movement, and doing my best to contextualize their actions when talking about them. All the shit flinging for whatever ideological divergence is better left for later.
