Depends on what it is. Like for pizza, I do go to the big chains sometimes but I prefer the local pizza places more. But the prices are insane!

Pizza place down the road wants $30 for a simple large pepperoni pizza. But Dominos will only charge me around $12 for the same size pizza with more toppings.

A local Mexican restaurant does pizzas and I’ve been going there more because their pizzas are the absolute best I’ve ever tasted and they’re cheap at around $10 for a large. You simply cannot beat it any way you try.

But it’s hard because of this. Either local places are too expensive or just aren’t as convenient. I hate to say it, but it’s convenient to go into a place like Walmart and get both groceries and electronics and furniture all in the same trip, not to mention the cheaper prices. But there’s also other factors too like peace of mind. I bought some clothes from Target recently in another city and took them back for a refund to my local Target and had no grief. Also, if I don’t have the receipt, they have the ability to look up my card and find my purchase and refund. I also have peace of mind knowing they have blanket policies they follow. 90 days means 90 days for all their stores.

Whereas a local place may tell you 7 days, but is it really? Some places can be more lenient and go beyond the 7 days and some will pretend they never made such a promise. Such is the case for this place down the road from me that is a small, locally owned outlet place that resells stuff and they tell you 7 days and tell other people a different policy and then sometimes don’t honor it at all. Even if one of the Targets denies my return, I’ll go across town and try another Target and maybe get an employee who just doesn’t give a shit and get my stuff done. Happened to me with a bank and a manager who was doing some illegal shit and not letting me withdraw my money. I reported her and the bank and they did get investigated and eventually apologized to me for the manager, but that was months later. And the point was that I went across town and did my legal transaction without issues there. A local bank with one branch could have denied me and I’d have been out and waiting on the government or a lawyer to strongarm them into doing what they legally are supposed to do.

And another thing I realized years ago is that I as a minority may have issues in small towns where they don’t like people who look like me. Local restaurant legally can’t not serve me because they’re racist pricks but may do something like jack up the prices on me or be rude to me to discourage me from staying. But try that in a chain like Dennys and corporate will knock that shit off quick. They don’t want lawsuits and the negative publicity that comes with it all and will fire those racist pricks from representing their brand. I have peace of mind knowing that I can go into a Walmart and less likely to deal with discrimination. Though….the recent news about large chains wanting to make “personalized”/surge pricing is one of those downsides that a local place will likely never be able to do because they don’t have the technology for it or the manpower to maintain such a system.

Conclusion for me has been that I’m grateful both exist. But online retailers like Amazon I think are a bigger threat we should be worried about. Your local government can do something about both local and big businesses but can’t do much about online retailers fucking you over. And online retailers are causing brick and mortar to close at larger rates than ever before. It’s depressing seeing so many businesses, both small and big, close down and shopping malls become ghost towns.

And I bet you it pulled the right Terminal as you typed “term” but as you finish it, it pulls this bullshit.

Only in single player games and typically only when it’s too challenging like that mission/quest that is just really frustrating.

Or if I’ve already beaten the game and lost progress and just want to quickly get back to where I was.

Other than that, not really much. Maybe once in a while just to fuck around, but that’s about it for me. I don’t think it should be that big of a deal for single player offline games and you’re not trying to hit a leaderboard. It’s annoying seeing those on some games’ leaderboards and it’s obvious they’re there just because they cheated.

You could say that about any law they propose. 90% of the time, the law won’t do what they say it will.

This is a good point I never considered, thank you. I’m going to check into this and see when I get back later today.

At first I had the keyboard connected directly to the computer but now I use a KVM. I’ll check when connected over KVM and directly and report back what lsusb shows.

SFTP has been mentioned and is a good choice but this could also be done over torrents too. It’s the other most common legal use besides Linux distros.

Probably a direct link to the home network so the camera looks like it’s on the same network.

I’ve thought of and tried this for my VR headset to my home in a similar manner. The VR headset will only stream from my gaming PC if it’s on the same network and so I’d hope to use a VPN to tunnel into my network when not at home to play remotely. I’ve not gotten this to work, but this sounds like a similar hope for OP with a camera.

You’ll need to get a new one. I’ve done this before and you can buy 3M adhesive pads at places like Target in the US for around $8. If they’re too big, use scissors to cut them to size and they work just as well, if not better in some cases.

Also, isopropyl alcohol works very well at removing bits of the old adhesive that get left behind. I buy the 91% which works very well.

And it was the full game, not a broken mess that required updates and DLC to continue the story before the next title in the series.

Was that Howard (Patrick Fabian) from Better Call Saul on the voice recording in the beginning?? IMDb doesn’t list him here, but it sounded just like him.

Couldn’t sleep and went for a drive. 711 guy locked the door and posted a sign that he was taking a break just as I was walking up to the door so I turned around to leave and began leaving the parking lot. I look off to the side and see this weird looking cat but it’s not sitting like a cat.

Pulled up beside it and shouted out of my car “hey what are you up to?” The raccoon just looked up at me and I took this pic lol.

Truthfully, this was my first time seeing a raccoon (alive). I only ever see roadkill or glimpses of them scurrying off at night. So this was kind of cool for me.

It’s imitation lobster I bought for salad but thought I’d try this today because I wanted a sandwich and wanted some “lobster” too.

The lettuce is fresh from my backyard. Best thing I did this year was buy this 6 pack of lettuce plants for like $5 and have been using it ever since for sandwiches and salads.

Also added avocado and Roma tomato. And then added mayonnaise and siracha mayonnaise for the spread. You can see some of the siracha mayo on the lobster on the side.

Very delicious and definitely recommend.

Sorry if this is not the right community to ask this, but I just wondered this today.

Users often think of Linux as being more complicated to use than something like Windows or macOS, but I’m sure there are plenty of things made easier in Linux than the other two more common consumer OSes.

What are some that come to mind for you?

I got a new AIO cooler and needed to also move to a bigger desktop case.

So I moved all of my internal components from one case to the other and also removed the old AIO and installed the new one. Besides that, I might have damaged my PSU in the process so I had to replace that too. It wouldn’t turn on anymore so I just replaced it this morning.

I tried booting into Windows and it went to a BSOD saying cache_manager was the problem.

I tried to get a recovery in there and Windows tried to automatically repair drives but kept coming up on this same error.

I created a KDE Neon live USB and booted into that. Zero issues. I then manually formatted my Windows OS disk in KDE and also removed the Windows bootloader. Basically trying to start from a scratch system with no Microsoft any.

Still getting the BSOD, even with the Windows 11 USB installer I created from their creation tool. I am able to get to that purple screen in the installer and see a cursor to move around with my mouse. That’s the part in the Windows installer where you tell it what edition and which drive you want to choose. But after a few moments, it errors out to a BSOD.

Now I’ve actually went ahead and installed KDE Neon to my system. I use it on my laptop, but I need Windows on this computer for work (it’s my personal computer I game with but also use for remoting in for work).

I’m going to try redoing my USB as a new Windows 11 installer and see if that goes through, but wondering if there’s anything else I can do for this? Anything else to try?

I say “recently” in a relative way, more so countries that have split in the last century. Places like North and South Korea, Taiwan and China, former USSR states, etc.

Has enough time passed that these countries separated have major changes in their languages yet?

This shit grinds my gears so fucking hard.

I got a Dell Latitude 7400 2 in 1 from my job they were going to ewaste. I daily drive KDE Neon on it and I love it. However, one of its two USB type C ports isn’t working for charging or data transfer. I inspected the port but found no obvious damage. How can I troubleshoot and fix this? I’ve searched YouTube and online sites but haven’t found helpful guidance.

I get it if it’s at a place like Starbucks when you verbally say it. Everyone has a special way of spelling their name and you can’t know the spelling based on how it was said.

But when my name is literally written out in the previous email and you are replying to that email…bruh.

Makes me want to passive aggressively write theirs incorrectly too.

Just thinking about collector’s cups like limited edition Super Bowl memorabilia or whatever.

I realize that I prefer to use them rather than keep them pristine. I have a Chiefs winner shirt an ex gave me and I just wear it despite her saying it’d probably be worth something someday lol
