Shipping him a hard drive with the system is something I might consider too, since that night actually be easier for him to install with instructions then anything software. I remember that computer had a SATA SSD

Meant to reply to op not you whoops

Thanks, I'll try that, but how to I add that script when using clonezilla? When trying something in the past like that in the terminal it didn't do anything and said it didn't recognize this commands for some reason.

Am I supposed to start Clonezilla in a different mode?

Also, /path/to/image/dir is the partition correct? And do I have to specify which sda?

I want to make it size agnostic, because I don't remember what size his hard drive is (and he definitely doesn't have the ability to check), but I have the distro installed as a partition.

The issue I had with clonezilla is that it only works on the original hard drive.

When testing it on a second machine it had errors because it was trying to install to the exact same blocks as the original hard drive, and wouldn't install.

Unless the bashscript can somehow ignore that?

I tried following the guide I found on their site too, which mentioned going into advance mode and checking off something to "check blocks" or such so it could be installed on any device, but couldn't find such an option when I did it. I don't know if that's limited to a specific version of clonezilla

Edited to make clearer - I'm not using an image that's over 10 years, that's what he has installed on his PC. It can't be updated anymore, and even Firefox on it is getting deprecated soon.

I want to send him a USB with a customized version of Mint 22.1

He did literally say it's not meant for consumer use, it's just his build for himself that you're free to use

I have a couple of questions about a customized Distro I'm making for my dad (sending him a USB to install it from) that's easy to use (he's always been extremely tech illiterate - he only learned how to use a computer thanks to Linux, but that version of Ubuntu he had learned on is over 10 years old now) and I can connect to via Rust Desk that has a custom icon that says "help" (using Mint 22.1)

So far, the closest to success I've had is using Systemback - it perfectly copied the system as set up.

But, there's just one big problem - the installer.

The installer, despite being a GUI, is not user friendly. Not only are there a lack of instructions (making it unintuitive on what you need in order to be able to click "next" even if you are basically tech literate), but it involves manually partitioning the hard drives into 3 partitions - there's also no "erase all and use the whole drive" option.

My question is, can I edit or replace the installer Systemback uses, for something slightly easier, or if not feasible:

Can I use the terminal in Cubic to change a program's icon, move the panel (optional), and pin a program to the panel, as well as set up Firefox to not have AI, change the search engine, font size, and bookmarks, as well as install uBlock? (I'd install Librewolf, except that it doesn't store browsing history by default, which he relies on).

Just wanted to update, in case anyone came across this: wasn't any different than Cubic really, just with more options.

Now going to test setting it up on a laptop instead of VM and using Systemback to make it into an iso

I imagine if a Chinese company far away can pull all this off for so long without getting caught, the entire close by Russian government could do much, much more.

From my perspective, none of what transpired was polyamorous. It sounds like she just monkey-branched you and she's always been monogamous, and simply looked for an old flame because of all the stressors that occured (past regression I think it's called? Some kind of withdrawal to something positive in your past when things become terrible). Either way, she has always cheated on you, and pretending to want to open up the relationship was just further deception, and only was even suggested because she was caught. People like that, give polyamory a bad name.

I think what you should ask yourself too is, are you actually ready for a poly relationship, or even a monogamous one? To me it sounds like you're living in a toxic environment, where she has used your feelings to keep you as a dad and provider while doing what she wants, and suffering no repercussions from her hurtful actions. Maybe you need to hear this, or maybe you've already heard it, but what she's done to you is wrong, man. Very wrong. I could never do something like that to any of my partners, even if I no longer loved them the same.

I feel like an official divorce and complete separation would be best for you before you seek out a new relationship. Polyamory takes more work and communication than monogamy, and it really doesn't sound like you're in the headspace at the moment.

If you haven't, I think you should see a therapist and talk out your feelings and get down to how your core is, and how to overcome the fear and uncertainty you still have before jumping into any relationship. Otherwise you might just be hurting yourself further in the long run.

That's just my opinion based on what you've posted though, you know you better than I of course.

Just so everyone who might be newer is aware, dragonfucker is an infamous Lemmy troll. They mess with multiple minority communities specifically and constantly try to cause infighting.

Also it's to make sure he can hit superman. Superman is faster than a speeding bullet, but a batpoon isn't a bullet. Checkmate

So basically, my dad doesn't have any tech literacy, like at all.

The only reason he learned how to ever use a computer was thanks to Linux (in my experience the elderly find it easier to use than Windows btw).

However, I moved to a different country long ago, and his old Ubuntu installation is getting extremely old. Not only that, but I forgot to install something like Rust Desk before I left, which means his browser etc hasn't been updated in years (he forgot how to do updates and lost the page with instructions).

So, my solution now that I know he needs an updated system is to send him a USB drive and detailed printed instructions on how to install it with pictures by mail.

I'm planning on sending him Linux Mint, because I wanted to use the OEM install option in order to pre-install some programs (freetube, signal, and especially Rust Desk) using it in a virtual machine, and then turn that into an iso/img that I could flash to a USB so that it's ready for him to just install once he gets it. I also need to be able to preemptively rename Rust Desk and change the icon to something he can easily identify so that if he needs help, he can easily find the program, ideally already pinned in the panel or with a desktop shortcut.

Problem is, I can't figure out how to do that. I've been trying for 3 days. I tried converting the vdi into a img file using qemu but that causes errors when trying to run the img or iso (I think it's still raw?). I even got desperate enough to try ChatGPT by it gave me a very advanced answer that I didn't understand that involved calculating memory, or to use Cubic (which can't modify Rustdesk), and it also gave me a solution that didn't work.

I also noticed that the vdi is much bigger than the initial mint iso - I guess because everything has been unpacked in the virtual machine. Shrinking it so it can fit in my spare 8gb drive would be the next step of I even made it that far.

Screw you Israel! Even with your coordinated global voting you couldn't win! Austria's singer deserved it, great vocals!

Basically an alternative to this:

https://koss.com/products/ksc35-wireless

I've always hated buds, but also can't wear standard over ear headphones when riding a bike with a helmet on. They're also useful in the winter.

Looking specifically for clip on over ear headphones. Wired or wireless, although wireless would be preferred. So far the only ones I've ever found are cheap ones on Alibaba that will shock you in the winter (and break easily) and these Koss ones that have been really good quality, but are American.

They can be paid, just looking for some balanced weaponry that's not overpowered on Bedrock for a Realms server I have. Most of what I've found is either game breakingly powerful or end game ingredients.
