Call me rude, but I don't think you should be using the exact same name if you're not the original developer.

Something like infinity rebooted, infinity relaunch, or something like that is fine. Just straight up calling it infinity seems misleading. Also sucks for you if the original developer decides to make infinity for Lemmy.

Firefox does this by default. So that.

I'm shocked they haven't already. A good 95% of YouTube could be deleted and no one would notice, and would save Google millions and millions of dollars.

[-] JshKlsn@lemmy.ml 133 points 11 months ago

I literally have like 1TB of video stored on YouTube and privatized. Google is making $0 from my videos, but they still have to store them and have them available if I want to watch it (it's all of my Twitch VODs). Meanwhile websites like Streamable perma-delete my 5MB video after it gets 0 views in 2 milliseconds.

YouTube is a behemoth that will not be replaced.

It's a laptop that you can upgrade like a desktop.

You can also mix and match the ports on it, so you can do a combination of whatever ports you use and need most.

I've had a few websites tell me to view their website in Chrome. I just leave, because no way am I putting any kind of personal data into a website run by such incompetent people.

I used to be a web developer. Back 8 years ago, you used to have to do a lot of special tricks to make your website look and function the same in all the browsers. Now, you really don't. Unless you're using some really obscure closed source codec or something, websites literally render and function properly without needing any browser specific code fixes.

There's no excuse, unless you're blocking older versions of every browser for security reasons, which is fine, because browsers update automatically these days, and it's very rare for someone to be running a really old version.

I mod a bunch. Only because I joined when Lemmy got it's big first wave, and the site was literally dead. My contribution was making communities for people to start posting in, because a ton of people simply don't want to moderate, or don't know how to create communities.

Within the first week I got a bunch of DMs from people asking to be mods, and I added all of them. I am not making communities to horde them. I am making them so people have places to post. To get the ball rolling.

One of the Linux challenge videos. Either part 1 or 2.

The Linux community loves hating on Linus for this, but honestly, it was a bug that popos has now fixed, and the video genuinely shows how difficult Linux can be for the average user.

If you drop the first half, the web version and most apps will open the community in your instance.

Every time you suggest to meat eaters to eat less meat, they become violent.

Even if you suggest them cutting their 14 meat meals per week down to maybe 12 meat meals (skip one day), they flip their shit.

So ya, good luck suggesting to anyone to eat 30% less.

According to multiple users on Telegram, Google is rolling out an update to the Emoji Wallpaper app in Android 14 Beta 3.

The update shows up on Google Play as "Emoji Workshop Wallpaper" and enables you to use the emoji wallpaper feature in Wallpaper & styles.

Here's the Play Store link. The listing doesn't appear if you open Google Play on the web, but it does appear if you open it on a Pixel phone as it filters for devices that declare com.google.android.feature.PIXEL_EXPERIENCE.

There are two main differences between the prebuilt Emoji Wallpaper app in the firmware and the updated Emoji Workshop Wallpaper app.

  1. "Emoji Labs" in Wallpaper & style has been renamed to "Emoji Workshop"

  2. The emoji wallpaper is now interactive, as shown off at I/O.

The min SDK version of the Emoji Workshop Wallpaper app is 33, so it can be installed on Android 13+ devices. However, if you sideload it on a device without Google's Wallpaper & style app, you'll have to manually launch the activity to create/set the wallpaper.

Once the APK is up on APKMirror, I'll update this post with a link in case you want to sideload it on your non-Pixel device. Alternatively, you can grab the APK shared by the Google News Telegram group.

Hi Beta users,

Today we’re releasing Android 14 Beta 3 (UPB3.230519.008) which includes our latest fixes and optimizations. We’ve also enabled Android Beta enrollment for the new Pixel 7a!

The following issues are fixed in Beta 3:

  • Fixed issues that prevented Wi-Fi calling from being enabled for some devices and carriers. (Issue #277964472)
  • Fixed an issue that caused Direct My Call interactions to fail in some cases where they would normally work. (Issue #278252154)
  • Fixed system issues that caused unnecessary power consumption in some cases.
  • Fixed system stability issues that caused UI jank in some cases.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the system Settings app to crash while setting the wallpaper.
  • Fixed an issue with the system UI that could cause a GPU hang, leading to "Application Not Responding" (ANR) errors.
  • Fixed a system issue that could sometimes cause a device's GPS services to stop working until the device was rebooted.
  • Fixed issues with the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) that could prevent devices from being able to make Wi-Fi calls in some cases.
  • Fixed an issue where a blank screen displays after selecting the "Message" option for a recent caller in the Google Phone app.
  • Fixed an issue where while 3-button navigation was enabled for a device, putting Google Maps into picture-in-picture mode made the picture-in-picture window disappear.
  • Fixed an issue where locking and unlocking a device while playing a video in the Google TV app could cause the device to freeze.
  • Fixed an issue with Android Auto where some users could be asked to re-pair Bluetooth.
  • Fixed issues with Health Connect, including the following issues and other API and system behaviors:
    • An issue where the system back button stopped working while Health Connect integration was in progress.
    • An issue where the Route Permissions screen would sometimes freeze.
    • An issue where Health Connect sometimes couldn't be accessed in system settings.
    • An issue where the data category page of Health Connect was missing some permission types when a filter was applied.

Known Issues:

  • An issue with the Credential Manager platform APIs causes instability in apps that use them. A fix is available in the latest preview version of the Android 14 SDK, which developers can install using Android Studio. Developers who previously installed a preview version of the Android 14 SDK should completely uninstall the previous version and then reinstall the SDK to apply the fix.
  • An issue with the system UI sometimes causes the screen to flicker when a video is playing or an app is using in picture-in-picture mode.
  • In some cases, video continues playing in the background even after closing an app if the video was playing in picture-in-picture mode when it was closed.
  • A video that is playing in picture-in-picture mode stops playing abruptly if the back gesture is used within the PiP settings screens.
  • A system issue can sometimes cause the Android System Intelligence service to crash.
  • When using a device with a work profile, the Google Play Store app in the work profile hangs or crashes when launched.

Android 14 Beta 2.1 patch UPB2.230407.019 change log:

  • Fixed an issue that prevented users from completing device setup after opting a device running an Android 14 beta build out of the beta program. However, this fix is not backward compatible, so users that want to opt out of the beta program should take the following steps before opting out:
    • Update the device to Android 14 Beta 2.1, either through the over-the-air (OTA) update prompt, or by downloading an OTA image and then applying the update manually.
    • If your device is already opted out of the beta program and currently experiencing this issue, follow the steps above and download Beta 2.1.
    • Reset the pin, pattern, or password that's used on the device by navigating to Settings > Security & privacy > Screen lock. You can use the same pin, pattern, or password that was used previously, but you need to go through the setup flow.
    • Opt out of the beta program by following the instructions listed for the "How can I opt out and return to a public Android release" question in the FAQ section of the Android Beta Program page. If your device is not enrolled, you can download the public Android 13 images instead.
  • Fixed more issues that could cause the battery percentage to display as 0% regardless of the actual charge level of the device. (Issue #281890661)
  • Fixed issues that sometimes caused audio disruptions with the device's speakers. (Issue #282020333, Issue #281926462, Issue #282558809)
  • Fixed system stability issues that could cause apps or the device to freeze or crash. (Issue #281108515)
  • Fixed an issue with always-on-display mode when using a device with Android Auto. (Issue #282184174)
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the Google Photos app to crash when trying to open certain photos.
  • Fixed an issue where, while gesture navigation was enabled for a device, putting a video into picture-in-picture mode in the Google TV app made the picture-in-picture window disappear, even though playback continued and audio could still be heard.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Google Contacts app to crash when managing account settings.
  • Fixed an issue where the icon for the Google Messages app did not display for notifications when always-on-display mode was enabled.
