Oof! It's squats, not squares. That's what I get for not proof reading my posts.

The background is a translucent image of a Georgia O'Keeffe painting of a flower that's pretty infamous for looking like something else....

I love this idea! Tie it into your existing routine! I decided a year ago to stand on one leg while brushing my teeth. Started as a teeter-totter, now I just sway a bit. I change legs when I change quadrants & do each for 30 seconds.

Also, squares are great. I avoided them (and lunges) for 20+ years because of my knee. Then I worked with a trainer for about 8 months last year. She slowly got me working the knee and after a few months I realized I could do squats! My pampering the knee for decades did nothing for it while her slow but steady working on it has me pain free and able to hike for 5+ hours now.

I also found the book: Built from Broken: A Science-Based Guide to Healing Painful Joints, Preventing Injuries, and Rebuilding Your Body by Scott Hogan

Really helped me out.

I worry about the unintended consequences to eating hyper palatable , processed foods. Yes, it looks great & taste great but oof, now I gotta go take a 2-hour nap, and jeesh, now that I'm 70 I've got dementia, which is sometimes called 'type 3 diabetes ' in medical circles.

Absolutely agree on banning high fructose corn syrup. The stuff is awful. I recall a documentary from years back covering the discover and sale of HFCS , it was kind of a tongue in cheek, 60's , Wes Anderson-ish movie. Couldn't find that one but did find this article & have a slew of new Health movies to watch. https://www.vogue.in/content/10-health-documentaries-on-netflix-that-will-make-you-rethink-what-you-eat

Why even bother negotiating with the United States? We don't honor past negotiations & deals.

Shouldn't there be some sort of goal keeping, where if you help someone else out we will help you out? Oh wait, that's a democracy & FEMA was in charge of that. And you voted for this???

I barely agree with RFK Jr. on anything but this is a good move in my opinion. Unfortunately most of our food is so adultered and hyperpalatable and engineered for bulk consumption that we as a country cannot escape the chronic conditions that arise from its consumption. There is NO nutritional need for artificial food colorings, why is it there other than to convince you to eat the food.

Being active is so important to your health. Take where you're at and just build on it. One thing I always tell myself is that things won't get better if I don't act on it. Yeah, I want to loose 10 lbs so I'll start exercising and eating less. Tomorrow. Nope, it's got to start now. And give yourself some grace. Changing habits is hard and you will backslide. Don't beat yourself up, just awknowledge the slip and say you'll try to do better.

**Ishmael by Daniel Quinn ** Not exactly about religion but a turning point for me.

Ishmael is a half ton silverback gorilla. He is a student of ecology, life, freedom, and the human condition. He is also a teacher. He teaches that which all humans need to learn — must learn — if our species, and the rest of life on Earth as we know it, is to survive.

The book opens with a deceptively ordinary personals ad: “Teacher seeks pupil. Must have an earnest desire to save the world.” Seeking a direction for his life, a young man answers the ad and is startled to find that the teacher is a lowland gorilla named Ishmael, a creature uniquely placed to vision anew the human story.

I'm getting ready for a May trip where I will be backpacking for the first time. I'd appreciate any comments on my gear list!

We start out on the Green River outside Moab, UT putting in at Mineral Bottom and paddling 3 days to Spanish Bottom on the Colorado River. We will stash our kayaks and hike 1000ft up to the Dollhouse formation and cache water, then return to the river and camp, hiking back up to the Dollhouse the next day with our gear. I've included the link to my lighter pack for the gear I'll be hiking up on day 2 with. For the next 2 days we will do day hikes into the Maze.
