I mean, from this thread it shows people kinda remember stuff from those classes, but are missing a lot. Which is understandable, people left school and didn't use that information, it doesn't make you stupid.

But then you think, oh yeah! I remember how to make electricity, I need copper and an iron rock! So you spend all this time trying to manufacture some relatively thin copper wire, iron would probably be a little easier to find, wrap it around and then you're like.... Okay what went wrong? Annnnd you can't remember you actually needed a magnet and you gotta spin it.

Then do you remember learning how to store it? Connect it to anything useful? Maybe kinda, but extrapolate the first situation to every topic ever and that's what you'd get, half baked ideas that you don't really remember the specifics of. And the specifics really actually matter lol.

I took medical anthropology recently and this is the best answer. Helping others, even if they seem too far away to affect you in your individualist isolationist country, will actually affect your health.

A lot of kids also don't want to brush their teeth, go to bed at reasonable hours, or clean their rooms.

Kids don't really get to just do whatever they want it turns out because they aren't the best at taking care of themselves and making good decisions.

And there's people out there who work just as much but will never make the same amount of money. When you have the privilege to never worry about cleaning, laundry, taking care of your kids, grocery shopping, cooking, and all the numerous bullshit things that just add up to consume your time that you can wave away when you were born rich allow you to do that. They don't consume your day and energy.

Not that everyone if suddenly given that kind of time would do what he does, but I don't think they should. I think he's the type of person who looking back on his deathbed will regret only spending 2 hours a day with his family. That's really sad.
