The Super Nintendo version or the Switch remake?

Whichever version is easier for you to get/run, honestly. It's the same game.

  • Text: They're basically the same. A few dated references and character names were updated. I liked Mack better than Claymorton, but I get it. Croaka Cola is obviously an improvement.

  • Graphics: The remake is just better. The original was early 3D pre-rendered as pixelated sprites, which was never a great era in game art history.

  • Animation: The original is better, this is my biggest complaint with the remake. Some things are kind of weightless and floppy.

  • Music: They're both great, the remake maybe a bit better. It's entirely reasonable to prefer one over the other on a track by track basis.

  • Mechanics: The remake adds some extra systems to the combat. I don't think they really add anything. They don't ruin anything.

  • Content: The remake has a series of post-game boss fights with weird remixed mechanics. They're not incredible, but it's more stuff than the original had.

Wait why did Mack's name change??

I guess they don't expect people to get a reference to something almost a century old.

The remake. While I do think it pushed the art too far in the direction of "generic mario", there are so many other things better about the remake:

  • updated music is fantastic
  • lots of QoL improvements, like better item management and mechanics that make battles go faster
  • Updated localization, mostly for the better (though I do miss Mallow telling Mario "who do you think you are, Bruce Lee!?")

Yeah, the musoc isndefnitely an improvement. The original had short tracks, and while the remake doesn't add any new sections or anything, it commonpy doubles the length by adding instrumental variations. A real treat for Shimomura fans

Worth mentioning that the remaoe has the original tracks too, so you can get a good feel for both

The original but I only say that because the games are so similar and the original still holds up so well it kinda makes the whole sequel an unnecessary cash grab.

If the switch option includes giving $60 to Nintendo then definitely pirate the snes version I beg you

Switch emulation is pretty good
