The motion says that if approved, private donations would be used for the restoration of the school names and not by “the school system or government tax funds, though the SCPS will oversee disbursements relating to restoration costs,” according to [Thursday’s meeting agenda.]

This is all you need to know. Just need a little lubricant and the racist wheel keeps on turning.

No, there's one more key piece of info:

But the composition of the school board is different now than it was during the 2020 decision – all six seats are held by different people.

School boards are the most boring thing in the world. (Like I tell my kids, they even have "bored" right in the name"). But it seems like Confederates and racists have realized that, even though their racist views are rapidly receding into history, if they get elected to local government positions they can throw little local power trips to make sure all "those people" still know their place.

They’ve had the past 160 years to fill in some boring ass jobs to do that, the lure of money finally made them do it. My worldview doesn’t entertain the illusion that it truly matters whether you’re black, brown, yellow or white; only if you’ve got enough green to do whatever you want. So I’m going to have to disagree that this is a key piece of information.

the Coalition for Better Schools said it believed “that revisiting this decision is essential to honor our community’s heritage"

HERITAGE OF WHAT, YOU RACIST ASSHOLES?

The depressing thing about positive change is how long it takes and how quickly it is reversed.

When you hear the same people complaining about diversity, equity, and inclusion: this is part of the same reactionary mindset.

They don't want to champion those ideas, because they want minorities to feel excluded. They want to "include" traitors to the Union because they are themselves the continuation of that legacy. Equity means fixing what their progenitors rigged and stole in the first place.

Diversity is death to reactionary ideas: it's why they're terrified of it.

Billy Sherman should have never stopped burning

I’ve said this many times as a native and former resident of Georgia, Atlanta got its shit together after reconstruction far better than the rest of the south, just saying if BT Sherman had turned his gaze westward after Savannah and not stopped until Dallas was a cinder we’d be in a better place today
