What existing platforms do you wish were federated?

I just want more things on Peertube.
I really want to love peertube and use it but the transition is hard. I feel bad for "wasting" server space and compute and when I view the video on peertube I'm making my favorite creators gain less traction on YouTube which directly affects their income and growth.
Some of them can be supported through Patreon and they’re getting way more money than through YouTube.
But it’s through that it lacks content and it’s also difficult to find content on peertube.

It needs a recommendation algorithm. Search is simply not enough to find videos you may like.
Search would be enough if it had the content library of YouTube.

Give what you can and if you can’t it’s also okay.
I’m only giving 1$ a month to the Linux Experiment, but, according to him, that’s way more than what he would get from me watching his videos on YouTube.
I’m also donating 100$ a year to many open source projects, but I might have to give up because of financial troubles too..
Honestly, I’m murdering the productivity of every channel I watch anyways with uBlock origin and sponsorBlock, so I don’t think it’d be much worse

They could choose a different business model to get revenue from their videos that doesn't rely on google or the current model where personal privacy is the commodity. It could also be a difficult transition. Is it worth it to them? To you?
Shame that all those business models require US centric payment processors to actually get paid.
I'm not in the US and my choices for actually getting money into my bank account are PayPal or Stripe, neither of which have policies that permit the distribution of electronic data or alternatively donations without being a registered charity.
Neither has dispute resolution procedures that go beyond "you broke the rules and we're keeping your money", and "sorry, that was a fraudulent card and we're taking the money back, plus a fee, and the fraudster keeps the goods", and finally "our word is final and we're now closing your account without disclosing why".
So, yeah, good luck with that.

You know that PeerTube has a build-in video import tool ? It can import Youtube / Dailymotion / Vimeo channels or playlists.

I think that downloading YouTube videos is technically illegal unless you have been the uploader of the videos. But with PeerTube you can create private channels which you could share with friends or maybe even paid subscribers I guess.

I agree, peer tube's biggest issues so far besides the storage or the fact that there are almost no peer tube servers which offer user accounts (which isn't needed explicitly to watch videos but makes the experience much better), and also the fact that there aren't really any good apps to use it with that aren't outdated or abandoned.

That’s a good one. The photomarket on reddit was the main reason I was hesitant to shut down my account. And eBay is way too expensive and unfair for sellers.

I found my latest job there. Some companies tend to mostly post in LinkedIn rather than other job boards. I guess it's probably country dependent
I do B2B hardware and software projects. I hate sales and advertising but I will post something I'm working on about once a week on my personal LinkedIn. It's amazing how many customers reference that stuff when I have my first meeting.

All of em, really. I don't see much of a reason why the vast majority of platforms wouldn't benefit from it, except for maybe an argument around it allowing the creation of larger and larger echo chambers, but that's probably fine as long as it's managed to only be to a certain degree.

I don't know, can't really describe it, but 4chan just has a different vibe. I love Lemmy, but it's closer to Reddit than to 4chan.
It's not really that fundamentally different from the idea of Lemmy, the interface is just different but the idea of having communities and posts in the communities is the same.
The thing that would be tricky and would probably have the most friction would be anonymous posting since that's where things get really ugly regarding moderation and user conduct, since a good amount are just going to be spammers and many others will be trolls and malicious users.

The only thing that keeps me tied to any Meta platform is the Facebook marketplace. It is the de facto method of buying and selling used goods in a sustainable fashion.
If there was any alternative, especially a federated one, I'd switch over in a heartbeat.
@ChasingEnigma@lemmy.world DeviantArt - I like separation between art, literature, and regular status updates, and the ability to group posts in your inbox into folders by who posted them. Or, more realistically, any of the various furry sites that work on a similar model and have less potential for cultural conflict.

Forgejo having Federation enabled would be great since it would allow people with Codeberg accounts to contribute in self-hosted repos without having to apply or beg for accounts on them just to submit issues and pulls.

Second Life.
As in you don't have to pay upkeep of a region/sim when you can host it yourself. But you can still rent/buy parcels on other user or LL hosted region/SIM. In the later scenario you would pay the hoster a regular upkeep.
