We just hit 2000 subscribers! I’d like to thank everyone for showing up here to create a new community, and what better way than giving stuff away?

I’m giving away the Nitecore MH10 v2 I reviewed. I can ship it anywhere in the USA or EU, but EU winners will have to wait until mid September. This is a basic, beginner-friendly flashlight that can accept almost all 18650 and 21700 batteries.

To enter, leave a top-level comment on this post before midnight UTC on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Only accounts that have posted or commented on /c/flashlight prior to this being posted are eligible to win.

While I’m not eligible, I’m glad to see a flashlight community on the fediverse! Subscribed.

[-] SpeziSuchtel@feddit.de 6 points 10 months ago

I’m glad we are on c/flashlight, because I misread this for a different community at first and was confused on how this one would work.

[-] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 months ago

Obviously I’m disqualified since I haven’t posted in the community before, but as a short term lurker I appreciate you giving back to the community.

Good luck to all!

[-] SammysHP@feddit.de 5 points 10 months ago

Awesome! I think c/flashlight is a really great alternative to r/flashlight, especially if more people would post here.

And thanks for the giveaway!

[-] lud@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago

Shit I didn't know this sub existed.

Well it's good seeing you here anyways, Zak.

[-] TheHawaiianKoala@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago

Not in EU or USA so not commenting for participating. Just happy that 2000 people joined a niche sub after leaving Reddit

[-] kubusikan@feddit.de 4 points 10 months ago

Great! I really hope this community will grow even bigger.

[-] masterflinter@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I do not wish to win this light but thanks for running the giveaway and being active on Lemmy

[-] poudi8@reddthat.com 3 points 10 months ago

I hardly ever visit Reddit these days, it's great to see the community grow!

I've always tried to find good flashlights, but seem to fail almost every time. The best flashlights I've got are actually little tiny rechargable ones I got for my bike.

The main things I care about are:

  • rechargable
  • long lasting battery
  • decent brightness

Would be nice features:

  • usb-c charging
  • replaceable battery

Things I would love to see, but almost never do, are:

  • not having to toggle through every damn brightness and flashing setting and just be able to turn on/off with a single button
  • red, orange, or yellow setting so I don't fuck up my night vision

Are these things unreasonable? Am I just crazy?

[-] Reader9@programming.dev 3 points 10 months ago

not having to toggle through every damn brightness and flashing setting and just be able to turn on/off with a single button

You’re in luck, this is one of OP’s own requirements for all the lights on the “arbitrary list”:

A user interface where a single click turns the light on in a reasonable mode, and another single click turns it off.

Wow, I can't believe we are already at 2000!

And don't pick me, let somebody new have a shot ;)

[-] Nfamwap@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Wow, 2000 subscribers for a pretty niche community. This Lemmy thing is getting pretty serious.

[-] Schlemmy@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

Awesome! Glad to see the community continue here.

Just here for support, don't need the flashlight.

[-] TheBlackKnight@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Nice light! Are Canadians eligible? Thanks!

[-] Zak@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

If you win, we'll talk about shipping and customs.

[-] TheBlackKnight@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Thanks kindly good Lemming

[-] Zak@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

You won!

Please figure out the best way to ship from the US or Germany. If it's much more than domestic shipping, I may ask you to contribute something to the cost of shipping. You may have to pay something to customs as well.

[-] TheBlackKnight@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Thanks amazing, thank you!

UPS/FedEx/USPS should work and no problem with chipping in for shipping, let me know

I am in western Canada so shipping from US would be easiest

[-] eldoom@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

I'm not sure if I've commented on this community before but I know for sure I've talked about flashlights elsewhere lol!

Either way thanks for giving back to the community! That's seriously awesome!

[-] giant_smeeg@feddit.uk 3 points 10 months ago

Holy crap. Not been able to afford a new light for a while. Still running my Fenix UC35. They've come along way, this would be a nice upgrade!

[-] luppano@lou.lt 3 points 10 months ago

@Zak 2000 ! Great !

[-] brennor@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

Awesome to see 2000 subscribers. I'm just a lurker, but great to see the growth.

[-] Drewlb@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Darn, hadn't commented yet since coming over... Maybe next time

[-] JohnDClay@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

That's awesome! I don't know if I've commented before, but we'll see! I've been subscribed for a while. Thanks!

[-] Cheems@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Not sure if I commented, but sweet giveaway

[-] RedEyeFlightControl@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Very generous of you :)

[-] IkoIko@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

Similar to another poster, I’ve lurked and not posted since coming here from R**dit, hence ineligible. But thank you for doing this!

[-] Jallu@sopuli.xyz 2 points 10 months ago

I can't participate, but this looks nice!

[-] Rouxibeau@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Thanks for giving to the community.

[-] Sharpiemarker@feddit.de 2 points 10 months ago

Vanitastheunversed just lost their nitecore EDC. Idk how to tag someone on Lemmy but hopefully they join the giveaway.

I will contribute with a flashlight meme themed limerick:

There once was a man without foresight

Who's wife did not approve his new flashlight

His Visa credit card

Lay out in the yard

But came four weeks later his new Hank light

[-] Zak@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Is this a bad time to mention that the D1K is on sale for $30, and can be had with the new Nichia 719A?

[-] masterironchef@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Interesting. I've been eyeballing a boost-driver D1 for a bit, but after seeing the SC65c thermal throttling and knowing how quickly most Noctigon and Emisars step down due to heat, I might go for a DM11 since it has a bigger head, and will put more lumens "on target" with the TIR. My larger lights are all bucked/boosted and are set up for reasonable sustained output instead of being 30 second hand melters

[-] Zak@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Winner selection:

$(".comments").children.length

> 44

I requested a random integer from 0 to 43 from random.org and got 37, which is this comment, however MayvisDelacour has never posted to /c/flashlight and is not eligible to win.

The next try got 15, which is this comment. TheBlackKnight is eligible to win after figuring out shipping and customs to Canada.

[-] 677@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Thanks Zak!

[-] JokklMaster@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Ah shit I don't know if I've commented here before now...

Edit: And I realize if it was it was probably on my kbin account.

[-] QuikxSpec@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Very cool to pay it forward!

[-] MayvisDelacour@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I too like to see in the dark!

[-] BullstrongDVM@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I haven't handled a Nitecore light in ages. I did have a 2xCR123 one back in my Boy Scout days. No idea what happened to it.

[-] rbos@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago

I'm not eligible having never posted, but good on you, fun community promotion.

[-] MrAnderson@feddit.nl 1 points 10 months ago

I'm not eligible to win and as such please don't consider this an entry, but I did want to chime in as a lurker that this is real cool and a nice thing you're doing for the community.

[-] DinDjarin@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Don't need the light, but happy to see this community grow!

[-] containerfan@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

It's awesome to see so many familiar folks over here. So glad this community is growing.

[-] jwigum@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Sweet, Nitecore! They seem to make great stuff.

[-] Reader9@programming.dev 1 points 10 months ago

Thanks @Zak@lemmy.world for running this giveaway and community! (Please exclude this comment from the prize drawing :) )

[-] electromage@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

I don't need it but thank you for doing this!

[-] nameisnotimportant@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 months ago

Thanks a lot Zak! I hope lemmies will proper!

[-] MashedPotatoJeff@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Thanks Zak! Long live Lemmy

[-] trakcon@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Yes! I glad to see this community growing! Thanks for the giveaway!
