Trogdor can drink?! Game over, man.

[-] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

See my comments for my take on a Trogdor cocktail. I'll have it perfected by next year (21 year olds like Trogdor don't care what it tastes like anyway...)

Burning down some thatched-roof cottages in his honor today.

I installed this light switch so you could turn the lights on and off! Not so you could throw light switch rave parties!

[-] ace_garp@lemmy.world 20 points 9 months ago

You should all know that there exists a Trogdor boardgame.

We can all be burninating on this blessed day.

Great to hear!

I haven't played it yet, on my list though.

My favourite bit? The rulebook is provided as an album of songs performed by HR characters and a load of the fictional HR bands that have been created over the years, like Sloshy, Tarantula, Brainkrieg and, of course, Limozeen.

[-] ace_garp@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Did not know this! Looks to be the best game-learning format ever.

That rulebook is cool; and by cool, I mean totally sweet.

[-] StereoTrespasser@lemmy.world 15 points 9 months ago

Twenty....one .....years. My god. I think I've been telling myself I should check if there's something new on homestarrunner every day for 20 years and thinking I'll get to it tomorrow.

[-] SandLight@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Sometimes there's new stuff on their YouTube channel at least

[-] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

I created a Trogdor Cocktail today in honor. Trogdor day will forever be my favorite holiday.

[-] Codename_goose@sh.itjust.works 9 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

You can’t just say that, and not tell us. I want to celebrate with a cocktail in their honor.

Edit: Wait is it just fireball whiskey?

[-] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I’m still perfecting it and will post the finished version tomorrow. It involves peaty scotch to emulate burninating thatched roof cottages. There’s a float of grain alcohol to set it on fire. I’m using a pencil as a stirrer to serve it with.

If this turns out drinkable, I’ll see about getting some appropriate glasses made. More soon…

P.s. I also have a Trogdor bumper sticker on my car. I must never allow it to be in an accident - irreplaceable!

[-] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

P.p.s. If any of you are around Denver for next year’s Trogday, hit me up, I’ll host a birthday cocktail party with my new invention.

Trogdor: The Cocktail

DISCLAIMER: This was done on a whim with what I had around the house, but now that I've gone down this path I plan on continuing to perfect it throughout the year as well as making other SB themed cocktails ("The Cheat" and "Light Switch Rave" obv!). Personally the flavors suit my palette, but I expect it will be a bit divisive.

Serving: 1

Ingredients

  • 2oz blended scotch or whisky (I used Tullamore Dew...it was what I had at hand)
  • 1 tsp sweet/spicy sauce or simple syrup (I used Bjorn's Sweet & Spicy Colorado Honey because I was too lazy to make my own *see note below)
  • 1/4 oz smoky single malt for burninated thatched cottage flavor (I used Lagavulin 16 year...yep, it's what I had around)
  • cucumber (for ribbon) for enhanced Trogdor body vibe
  • cinnamon stick soaked in grain alcohol (for fire garnish)
  • pretzel stick broken in half (eyebrow garnish)

Instructions

  • Combine blended scotch & sweet/spicy stuff in a cocktail shaker 3/4 filled w ice
  • Shake until chilled
  • Strain into rocks glass with one honkin' big cube and the cucumber ribbon spiraled around to emulate Trogdor's green body
  • Top with float of peaty single malt
  • Use dollop of sweet/spicy stickiness to fix to pretzel sticks as an eyebrow-looking garnish
  • Stick cinnamon stick in drink and light on fire

If you can't find an appropriate pre-made sweet/spicy ingredient, message me and I'll whip up a recipe for something for ya.

Now that I'm on this kick, I want to figure out how to get Strongbad "tiki" glasses made. If any of you have ideas around that, please send 'em my way.

Keep on burninating kickass peeps, and please give me suggestions, advice, jokes, whatever, and let me know how yours comes out if you make one!

The website was homestarrunner.com and before YouTube, we used to just manually check the website. It was part of my day to check and see if anything new was on the site Also notable was that they never advertised. Their entire operation was done by word-of-mouth, in a time where there were no Facebook or reddit or YouTube or anything. The internet was a lot more wild then.

Homestarrunner ("It's dot com!"), Weebl and Bob, nuklearpower, Joe Cartoon, Bob and George... it was a different world.

Then Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White
And Monty Python and the Holy Grail's black knight
And Benito Mussolini and the Blue Meanie
And Cowboy Curtis and Jambi the Genie
Robocop, The Terminator, Captain Kirk, and Darth Vader
Lo-pan, Superman, every single Power Ranger
Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan
Spock, The Rock, Doc Ock, and Hulk Hogan
All came out of nowhere lightning fast
And they kicked Chuck Norris in his cowboy ass

It was the bloodiest battle that the world ever saw

With civilians looking on in total awe

Well the fight raged on for a century

Many lives were claimed, but eventually

A champion stood, the rest saw their better

Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater

Edit: formatting

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that remembers these lyrics. I imagine a very specific subset of our generation singing it in nursing homes before much longer.

I still sing random Weebl and Bob ditties to this day.

[-] MIDItheKID@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

I sometimes find myself humming/singing Mr.Weebl songs and my wife is like "Who the fuck is Magical Trevor?" and I'm like "You had to be there to understand, don't worry about it"
