The Louisiana Republican announced on Wednesday morning on an all-staff call that he will not run for House minority leader for the new Congress next year, following Tuesday’s historical Democratic landslide takeover of the House of Representatives.

It’s not clear yet if Johnson has anointed a successor to lead the Republican caucus. Representative Jim Jordan, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has already thrown his hat into the ring and announced he’s running for House minority leader. According to Punchbowl News, Jordan’s pitch will be that new blood is needed and that he specializes in investigations.

The current number two Republican in the House, Representative Steve Scalise, also announced that he is running for caucus leader.

What would it take to get Trump to resign?

[–] SeriousMite@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Jeffries and Schumer should have both stepped down after the embarrassing 2024 losses.

I'm every single photo I've ever seen of him, he just looks confused to hell. Like he's having super early dementia.

I mean I know he's just plain evil, but he looks confused as hell, and Patel always looks awkward as fuck.

It's all the drugs. Poppers probably. They are popular in the gay community.

Mr Spineless slithers off like the spineless blob he is hoping no one notices

[–] ghostpony@infosec.pub 40 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He’s going to have a lot of time on his hands now and will depend on his son to heavily monitor his porn intake.

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

He's still going to be in the house. He didn't lose his election.

Welcome to the club of the ex-future leaders of the Republican party.

Gym fucking Jordan? Are you fucking kidding me? How is he thinking this is the moment for pedophile protectors to take the reins? JFC

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 56 points 3 days ago (3 children)

For them, protecting pedophiles right now, is a requirement...not an option. Democrats are going to be investigating everyone, so they need someone in charge with experience at covering shit up.

They're eating their young. I'm sending (yet another) e-mail to our RethugliKKKan Senator, asking if she regrets not removing it from office as I demanded so many times in the past. Her reply will be priceless.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 64 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Gym Jordan sexually assaulted children.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 41 points 3 days ago

Of course he did! It's a qualification for any Republican Leadership position.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 12 points 3 days ago

Yes, and Importantly, covered it up for years. Which is exactly what the Republicans want right now. The Dem leadership is definitely going to use their powers to investigate all the shit the Republicans have been covering up, including that. Actually going after the pedophiles the Republicans have been hyping their base up about for the last decade or so is a good way to maintain some support from voters that crossed over this election. The Dems don't have an issue cleaning their own house, even when it isn't really warranted like Al Franken, so it's not really a threat for them.

And exposing the pedophile members of Congress is a good way to start cleaning house. Congress can expel members, and while generally uncommon other than the Confederates expelled in 1861/1862, in the House, James Traficant was expelled in 2002 and George Santos was expelled in 2023. In the Senate, John Ensign was going to be expelled in 2011 but he chose to resign before that happened. It's uncommon, but isn't some long lost capability no one knows about anymore.

I was struggling yesterday to remember whst this guys name is. He just carries trumps diaper bag now and rubber stamps his crimes. He didnt quit leadership, he got sidelined. Like all trumps allies, its only a matter of time until trump backstabs or scapegoats them.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 44 points 3 days ago (4 children)

The pedo cover-up guy wants to do it? What you going to do r's.

Jim Jordan, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has already thrown his hat into the ring and announced he’s running for House minority leader.

Jordan’s pitch will be that new blood is needed and that he specializes in investigations

Yeah, of his own belly button.

[–] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Around here, we refer to him by his full Christian name, Gymnasium B. Jordan.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Handjob Jim "investigated" the boners of young wrestlers.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

He'll fit in well with trump. Trumps speeches about male asses are really unnerving. How would you like to be in that crowd listening to him drool.

[–] Gpennyhigh@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago (1 children)

jordan is a creep and criminal too

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It's going to be Scalisce. The donors won't touch Jordon. Aside from being a degenerate, he's also a moron and a bad hang.

Am I the only person who saw this sentence?

According to Punchbowl News, Jordan’s pitch will be that new blood is needed and that he specializes in investigations.

After reading that, I thought Punchbowl News must be a top-tier satire publication, but apparently, Jim Jordan seriously said that he, a person whose biggest claim to fame is that he refused to investigate repeated claims of SA on college students for unknown years, "specializes in investigations" and that they need "new blood".

Is he so dense that he could say something like that without realizing what it means? Or is he secretly reminding people what he's done, in an effort to taunt his victims, like serial killers have done in the past?

Gotta get your résumé ready and sent to Fox News huh Mikey?…

[–] halezinflames@lemmus.org 2 points 2 days ago

Bye bye Mike

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 11 points 3 days ago

I'm not surprised Johnson is stepping back. He only got elected as a deep compromise due to a thin majority and several failed ballots. The very special circumstance that got him elected is gone.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

When the going gets tough, Mike Johnson gets going -- out the door.

I guess it makes sense that Gym Jordan world be the heir apparent. He's like a veruca, he just won't go away. Plus, he's the last one of the League of Extraordinary Dipshits left. Marge Taylor-Greene quit after her feud with Trump kicked off; Lauren Boebert just lost her re-election (finally!); and Matt Gaetz was forced out of politics, and is presumably now busy focusing on his main career - trafficking underaged girls across state lines.
