"The service team reply misunderstood the situation. Unlock tool is unavailable at this moment but we are allowing the possibility to unlock, please stay tuned."

ASUS killed off bootloader unlocking back in May and has yet to fix that. If you try right now, you cannot unlock your ASUS phone. They may fix that in the future and are saying that's the case but as of right now, you can't.

[-] SHITPOSTING_ACCOUNT@feddit.de 22 points 9 months ago

Claiming that they want to allow it is pretty worthless if it has been killed off for months with no fix (and no fix in sight)...

[-] d3Xt3r@lemmy.nz 15 points 9 months ago

We really need to get Mishaal on to the Fediverse.

Yay, you're here! Now you can x-post your own tweets here lol.

[-] mintiefresh@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago

All that's left is to post onto Mastodon and move on from Twitter.

Do you want to post on bluesky too? Hah. Have invites to spare, DM if interested

[-] MishaalRahman 5 points 9 months ago

I'm already on Bluesky, but I stopped posting there because it seemed dead in comparison to Mastodon and Threads.

[-] natanael@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 months ago

Gotta follow some more people

[-] HaggierRapscallier@feddit.nl 1 points 9 months ago

Invites as in plural?? 👀

:)

[-] natanael@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 months ago

Only for people I know, though

[-] mintiefresh@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 months ago

Sweet! I shall follow :)

Doesn't exactly reflect well on Asus' customer service but good to get confirmation at least (especially as someone who just bought a ZF10!)

[-] droidpenguin@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

Part of their Zenfone marketing is keeping "legacy" features like headphone jack and small form factor, they should allow unlocking. Hopefully they'll follow through and allow you to modify the device that you purchased.

[-] Never_Sm1le 10 points 9 months ago

Let's hope it's not like Nokia situation. Promise BL unlock and only the Nokia 8 get it officially

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 6 points 9 months ago

Hopefully they keep to their word. Could be another Nokia or Huawei situation here. I'm still upset about the Huawei one, just after I unlocked my phone it was stolen, and by the time I got a replacement the unlock service was taken down.

Asus ZenPhone? Have you been living under a rock these past few months lol

[-] pgetsos@kbin.social 26 points 9 months ago

Years*

They are making phones probably for a decade now

[-] lud@lemm.ee 4 points 9 months ago

The zenphones seems pretty nice actually.

A bit too pricey for me though.

[-] Setarkus@toast.ooo 1 points 9 months ago

Well, it seems like I've had a roommate under that rock for years without noticing

[-] newIdentity@sh.itjust.works 13 points 9 months ago

Not only that. They sell ✨G A M I N G✨ phones.

Never heard of their ROG phone lineup?

[-] jayandp@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 months ago

I've had the ROG 2, and now the ROG 6. Up there as my favorite phones ever. Even if you aren't a phone gamer, it's great for Android Phone power users too.

Surprisingly, though I didn't originally buy with it in mind, the second side USB-C port quickly became one of my favorite features.

[-] pearsche 3 points 9 months ago

Hell yeah, if this is true then I might get a Zenfone 10

[-] ijeff 23 points 9 months ago

I'd personally wait until they actually follow through.

[-] ominouslemon@lemm.ee 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Same. Zenfone 9 still has no ROMs available, unfortunatley

[-] pearsche 2 points 9 months ago

true, but Mishaal is reliable I'd say. I can always get a motorola though. Otherwise, welp, I'd get an iPhone because I regret my Xiaomi

[-] ijeff 13 points 9 months ago

I'm thinking more in the sense of ASUS following through with commitment rather than doubting Mishaal :).

[-] MishaalRahman 12 points 9 months ago

Yeah, this is the right approach. It's true that ASUS dropped the ball when it comes to getting their bootloader unlock tool server back online as well as in keeping users updated on their progress. It's also true that you should never really take what support staff says at face value, and that a response from a PR rep is always preferable over support staff.

However, there are times when even the PR reps aren't aware of an internal policy change, or they aren't allowed to communicate as such yet. I don't think that's the case here, though. The PR rep I'm in touch with is the same one who has been running the Zenfone developer program for years, so I trust them!
