Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I love memes that still would have been bangers 3000 years ago

Prescriptivist nonsenseI love irregular conjugations in English, and I’m torn between being excited to see β€œforbade” in the wild and sad because it’s used for the perfect form, instead of the preterite.

To be fair, this shows an impressive improvement in cats' understanding of grammar since the start of internet memes. Remember when they used to ask, "Can I haz cheezburger?" At this rate, they'll soon speak better English than all of us.

If your oven is delicious, clean it.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 38 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Or it is delicious because food comes out of it. 😼

Why do they call it oven when you of in the cold food of out hot eat the food?

I think I get what you're going for, but that sentence hurt my brain.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Then the food is what's delicious, not the oven. The oven is only delicious if the food failed to come out of it.

We’re arguing about cat perception here?

It's a real book!

Synopsis

The author of Straw Dogs, famous for his provocative critiques of scientific hubris and the delusions of progress and humanism, turns his attention to cats--and what they reveal about humans' torturous relationship to the world and to themselves. The history of philosophy has been a predictably tragic or comical succession of palliatives for human disquiet. Thinkers from Spinoza to Berdyaev have pursued the perennial questions of how to be happy, how to be good, how to be loved, and how to live in a world of change and loss. But perhaps we can learn more from cats--the animal that has most captured our imagination--than from the great thinkers of the world. In Feline Philosophy, the philosopher John Gray discovers in cats a way of living that is unburdened by anxiety and self-consciousness, showing how they embody answers to the big questions of love and attachment, mortality, morality, and the Self: Montaigne's house cat, whose un-examined life may have been the one worth living; Meo, the Vietnam War survivor with an unshakable capacity for "fearless joy"; and Colette's Saha, the feline heroine of her subversive short story "The Cat", a parable about the pitfalls of human jealousy. Exploring the nature of cats, and what we can learn from it, Gray offers a profound, thought-provoking meditation on the follies of human exceptionalism and our fundamentally vulnerable and lonely condition. He charts a path toward a life without illusions and delusions, revealing how we can endure both crisis and transformation, and adapt to a changed scene, as cats have always done.

He actually used a different cover:

There should be a little human running between his legs.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 1 points 11 hours ago

wawoooow snacky-snack please dear honorable master?

The food is currently in the oven, therefore the oven is the "delicious chamber" because from the cat's perspective, it is the chamber that houses the deliciousness. What is so hard to get about that?

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're reasoning with a cat 😹

[–] grue@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The cat wants to go in because it smells food. It smells food because the residue hasn't been cleaned.

Or because there's food cooking in there

[–] SpaghettiMaster@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago

The cheddar cheese caves are not literally made of cheese. They are where cheese was traditionally made.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The heat from the oven is what makes it delicious, its not a binary situation.

You would prefer The Chamber Of Delicious?

Also, the oven mitt signifies that the delicious food is currently within the chamber becoming hotter and more delicious. Possibly spattering on the inside of the chamber.

[–] Sc00ter@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 day ago

delicious chamber

The chamber is delicious. A chamber is an enclosed space. The chamber has enclosed the delicious.

Also, man is wearing an oven mit. The chamber is currently enclosing the delicious.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why would you ruin its seasoning?

[–] grue@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

Cast iron pans are supposed to have seasoning. Appliances are not.

counterpoint: no.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

What do you have against there being joy in the world?

That was really good lol
