News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
Reddit is mostly bots reposting top level shit from over the years.
It really is. Lemmy is far quieter but dramatically better quality
I came over to lemmy a couple days ago when r/all redirected me to my homepage. I want to see what everyone is doing, not what the algorithm decides for me.
Its nice when you get to choose huh?
I love the fedi. If I dont see something, its probably because I did something silly with my own feed. And I can actually communicate with the devs on their platforms....or having a paywall/loginwall for just seeing stuff.
Awesome to have you! How have you been liking it so far?
I really enjoy it. I don't miss reddit at all.
Quality has been dropping kinda sharply for a while now in all the major communities. Smaller more niche and professional communities seem to be less affected.
It's not just you. Engagement on my content has been waaaaaay down.
You know how bad it is when people stop going to reddit for porn? Ask Tumblr, lol
The content is very shallow. Poor quality, yes. The interaction is there, but it's obviously botted. Not genuine.
Yep it's just shit. It's nearly as unusable as Facebook
last i used it, the frontpage was full but already felt empty. all the repost bots were already making it feel that way.
Seems like it's mostly videos on the fp now. If I wanted tiktok or instagram I'd use those instead. For me, reddit has been about text based interaction.
Not just you. A couple months ago there was a week long event which should have had its subreddit absolutely hopping. Like, dozens and dozens of posts and hundreds of comments, more than you could keep up with during the course of the event. Tens of thousands of subscribers.
Instead, maybe a couple dozen posts total, and a few comments each. Easy to catch up with in ten minutes back at the hotel. I don’t know if everybody got banned, or if people are just fed up with reddit.
Before i got banned on reddit it seemed like they where really pushing their automatic moderators and you would get shadow banned, or just straight up banned for even mentioning things like Israel.
Also more and more of reddit is just straight up becoming llms posts, and manufactured subreddits made only to sway Google's ai search results. If its not that its bots asking questions to ask reddit or where ever to train their llms.
Reddit is not for human beings.
Oh god of course... that's maybe what they want.
I've been b& since just before summer but I noticed a lot of posts asking really dumb questions clearly farming responses for some slop article to write.
IDK about quieter, but lately, it seems way more irritating. Slop, same lazy questions posted nearly daily, useless comments like "wow", and same jokes repeated endlessly. And I don't even follow any of the large subreddits, mostly some hobby/interest and local ones.
If that's the case, I wonder if #Reddit announcing they'd kill #RSS, killing Old Reddit, and demanding login and ~~registration~~ verification has anything to do with it.
Idk, I stopped going there a few months ago. And I can't even lurk there without an account anymore. So I truly have no idea.
Lower quality in general, more bots, and of course the mods
I haven't noticed, but I dont browse all and Im viewing reddit through redlib instance for my subscribed subs which are like pcgaming, emulation, hobby related.
I don't browse the general subs like news topics and social media video reposts, which I'd guess has the broadest appeal and most activity where changes might be more visible.
What are the subs you visit the most?
The only one I really visit anymore is a niche sub for /r/starcitizen and it doesn't seem to have declined in activity.
I avoid /all like the plague, it’s a flood of low hanging fruit and meme communities, many of which are indirect and inside jokes, so if you haven’t been part of it you have no clue wtf they’re talking about.
The subs I used to engage with were all hobby/interest related. Certain individual games (not /gaming, though), automotive enthusiasts, 3d printing, and some linux stuff surrounding Raspberry Pi and the like.
It's mainly on the front page I notice it, the few comms I pop into seem ok
Reddit users subs instead of coms, but IMO, it depends on which you're looking at: The main ones seem to be be worse off.
I visit a just a few subs daily through Redlib, they seem normal enough.
