Climate campaigner and pro-Palestinian activist Greta Thunberg joined demonstrators on Thursday outside the Eurolinks weapons manufacturing facility on the outskirts of Marseille. Wearing a traditional keffiyeh, Thunberg condemned corporate and state complicity in the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, caused by the ‘Israeli’ assault.

Standing before a crowd of protesters holding banners, Thunberg delivered a direct message regarding the facility's operations:

"We are currently blocking the entrances to the weapons factory Eurolinks in the outskirts of Marseille, who are supplying Israel with weapon components used to kill Palestinians in the genocide in Palestine which is still going on, and is happening with the complicity of our governments and our companies. So we all have a duty to stand up and stop the arms transfer used to kill innocent people."

Why does the article put quotes around 'Israeli'?

It is a Jordanian news site. ~~Jordan does~~ Jordanians do not recognize the illegal settler colonial entity occupying Palestine.

Jordan does not recognize the illegal settler colonial entity occupying Palestine

i regret to inform you that they do, actually, since 1994. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_recognition_of_Israel for current information about who does and doesn't.

Thanks for the correction you're right. I thought Roya was a Jordanian state sponsored news site since they always tow the Jordanian state media line pretty closely but they're "independent".

[–] Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

They have to tow the state media line. Jordan is under monarch rule after all.

Oh okay, that makes sense. For a sec I thought they might have been playing the "allegedly" card but that was my mistake!

Don't feel bad, I was about to ask the same thing.

Jordan or Jordanians?

I recognize a crowned pig when I see one.

I think this is silly; Israel exists even if it's illegitimate or dangerous.

Like, anarchists don't need to put "government" in quotes every time they use it. You can be mad at a thing that exists.

No it doesn't. All of the land is Palestine and it all belongs to Palestinians

If Israel exists tell me where Israel says its borders are

[–] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 day ago

tell me where Israel says its borders are

it's amazing how much this question flummoxes zionists

Israel is wherever Israeli forces control the land.

Palestine is also there, but there is also Israel. Unlike Israel, Palestine currently has less de-facto control over its borders and land.

Like, even if there is no “Israel” there in your view, there is a group of people that call themselves Israeli, that operate a so-called Israeli Defence Force, that elect an Israeli legislature, and that do so in a specific geographic area. This conglomerate of people and institutions and the location it exists in, the physical buildings, and the areas it has effective control over, these are Israel.

Similarly, there is a group of people that call themselves Palestinian, that are concentrated in specific areas, that have historical connection to specific areas, that operate Palestinian organisations, that elect a Palestinian government. These people and their actions that relate to the land are what constitute Palestine.

There used to be a bunch of French people in Algeria and now they're no longer there funny how that works innit

[–] schuelermine@leminal.space 0 points 1 day ago

I do not understand how this relates to what I said. Once these French people leave the place and cease to control it ceases to be France. In a similar way, if Palestinians establish control over Palestine and what is currently Israeli, Israel will cease to exist (even if the Israelis do not leave).
