Wasn't Krueger be a president during the times when South Africa was struggling for freedom, mmm? Mandela is famous for anti-apartheid...

No, Kruger was the President who fought against the British during the Anglo-Boer wars. And we Boers lost. But he did fight for independence from British rule.

Mandela fought for freedom for all in South Africa, when Apartheid was legally adopted in 1948, Mandela fought against the government of the time. Basically all people lost freedom, white people lost the least freedom (more minor inconveniences like cannot marry different colours or do business with other colours) and black people the most (where they live, what they can own, what they can do, almost everything needed the whites permission). So there were different tiers of people, (closest today that I can think of is India's caste system (but not nearly as similar or violent).

Mandela, with de Klerk pulled off a miracle, they ended Apartheid without a civil war. We had a bloodless (mostly) transition, adopted probably one of the best liberal constitutions in the world and became a constitutional democracy.

Mandela made everyone of us free in South Africa. Do we have issues, fuck yes. But we are working as a country together. Mostly the biggest issues now are systemic corruption on all levels of government, low growth and unemployment. But as I said as a nation we are improving and getting better. Not overnight, but we are heading in a better direction, especially without Zuma at the reigns anymore.

Mandela would be considered a terrorist today if he came back. Apparently being anti apartheid is enough to get you arrested on terrorism charges in some countries. (UK)
