SNACKS?! IN THIS ECONOMY?!

[–] Damage@slrpnk.net 4 points 6 days ago

Not a good idea to get the shits on a road trip

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 59 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I was gonna say that's way too much junk food for a road trip, but then I realized that's like two bags of chips and a candy bar these days.

Especially at convenience store prices.

(You can't buy road trip snacks at a normal grocery store. Just doesn't have the right vibe.)

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Said "vibe" seems like it's slipping into boujie "glamping is camping" territory, ngl. 🙆🏼‍♂️

[–] Godnroc@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I have known people who do that with the focus being on hiking, nature, learning, and exploration. The nice camp helps with the exhausting effort theu put into the day.

I've also known people who just get drunk and sleep in a tent, which seems more in the spirit and far less laudable.

Yep, I've been both, for sure, and I hear ya. Not so much the drinking anymore, and the former was just as often leading a group/class for science adventures, but yeah. Camping, et al, is near to my own heart and I hold it sacred as a method of meditation and re-centering, so there's some crotchety in there re: popularizing the luxurification of the whole thing. I mean, the Ship of Theseus is an entirely different question when someone's opened a gift shop onboard. 😅

And the bags of chips have 5 chips in them combined and the candy bar is the size of my pinky toe

Summer of 2016

There is a particular kind of whimsy that you only see in posts from the before times. I’m not sure how to describe it, but I know when I see it because the first thing I do is look for a timestamp.

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I dunno if I'd call it whimsy. Happiness? Comfort? Safety? I'm not sure, maybe it is whimsy, but I feel it's more of just a lack of sadness and stress. Everyone just feels on edge that they're being or about to be attacked. A lack of anxiety? But whimsy feels like the wrong word.

Check it;

Get the "2 for 1" packs of generic candy that every gas station has...a pack of peach rings & a pack of cherry sours.

Put a cherry sour inside a peach ring. They fit perfectly and look like a planet with rings. It's really an entire experience because the gummy texture of the peach rings compliments the crisp shell of the cherry sour. Taste (which is also great) becomes the least surprising aspect of this journey.

It's an experience.

One of the best parts of cycling is that you're allowed to eat 100 grams of sugar per hour

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're allowed to eat 100g of sugar an hour when you aren't a cyclist.

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well yeah you can, but without actually burning those carbs it's really not a good idea 🤣

[–] MangoCats@feddit.it 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

You just have to watch 4 hours of TV, or have 2 hours of sex per 100g of sugar. I suppose if you count the couple, you can share 100g of sugar per hour...

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's over 16 kilos a week!

BRB buying a bicycle

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

If you're riding 160 hours with moderate effort, sure 🤣

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago

In today's money that's like half a Snickers and a cupped hand of water from the fountain

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago

Lol this is me going to my 11 yo football game.

[–] nbailey@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

Nah, dried apricots and apple rings from the bulk store. And some bits of broken chocolate bars as a treat. One notch above gorp’n it.

[–] wieson@feddit.org 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sunflower seeds and apples, sparkling water and cold coffee.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

You had a weird childhood.

[–] HertzDentalBar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

$100 you say... Well that gas station has a weed store next to it... I know what snacks I want.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Helps you de-stress when driving too! /s

Much better than half the shit people are on while driving.

[–] tonyn@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

When I fill up for a road trip the pump shuts off at $100 and my tank is not even full. None left for snacks.

[–] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Nah, a bag of cashews, a jug of water, and a 6pack of whatever the most caffine dense energy drink they have.

[–] eurodyne@piefed.world 3 points 1 week ago

Nobody can afford all of those snacks anymore. Or the road trip.

To be honest, mine'd look more like a late-teen w/ that $100, if only for the requisite weed component. 🧏🏼‍♂️

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

"We have snacks at home" 😭
