More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

They also probably think jesus is white

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (3 children)

What are you talking about? Next thing you're going to say he wasn't blond and blue-eyed?

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I gotta say, of all the Jesuses, Korean Jesus is my favorite. Bro is ripped for your sins

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Swole Jesus, deliver us from the temptation to skip leg day!

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

His calves though... snickers

[–] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago

More of a smith's build than a carpenter's, though, I think...

[–] Codpiece@feddit.uk 11 points 5 days ago (3 children)

But he did speak English and have a crucifix on a chain around his neck, right?

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Obviously. And he loved shooting his AR-15.

Old but valid as ever:

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

Matthew Jesus best Jesus.

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Ok, seeing as you mentioned the crucifix thing let's talk about why Adam and Eve have belly buttons

[–] Codpiece@feddit.uk 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So we’re just glossing over Adam banging his own female clone then?

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 days ago

That's getting discussed tomorrow

[–] siriusmart@feddit.uk 2 points 5 days ago

bro, no spoilers

[–] darctiger88@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

He might have been, those features aren’t unheard of in that part of the world. My Greek husband was born with blond hair and has green eyes, his parents have blue eyes. He probably wasn’t, but even a minority of Palestinians are blonde.

They think St George was British

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago

English, he was English!!

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 32 points 5 days ago

Christians are like the least Christian people so I'm not surprised.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 15 points 5 days ago

Calling them Christians is insulting and I'm an atheist.

[–] Piatro@programming.dev 21 points 5 days ago

It's almost like their supposed beliefs aren't sincerely held and they are nominally attaching themselves to that belief system to lend credibility to whatever they want to spread. This post is about MAGA, people with "legitimate concerns" about immigration while rioting and destroying livelihoods, and about these fucks.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 21 points 6 days ago (1 children)

lovely. I haven't met many of these people (probably because the place I go to interact with Christians is Church) but from rare experiences, trying to discuss theology with these people is often quite difficult. There was someone online, albeit from a different country, who joined a Christian group chat and had a vitriolic hatred of muslims. We kept trying to correct him on his behaviour, and then he ended up leaving (whatever his version was of) Christianity because we weren't letting him have a vitriolic hatred of muslims.

[–] zloubida@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Same here, in France. I read everywhere that Christians are nationalists hating LGBTQ people and women's rights… most of the grey hairs on my church's benches fought for the legalization of abortion (I criticised May 68 one day and was almost lynched), my pastor marries homosexuals and the president of my church (a woman, by the way) openly condemned Le Pen and her party.

But if I discuss with less active Christians, who I see only rarely or not at all (but send money once a year to our parish, they proudly say), the tone is very different.

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 2 points 5 days ago

I've noticed here in Australia as well. Our pastor hard that people were picking sides in the Israeli Palestinian Iranian war and he slapped it down in a sermon and told us that we were to love everyone with all our hearts.

But I've mentioned that I'm a church goer to people who don't believe at all and they told me that Australia should be a Christian country. I'm not sure what value they see in Christianity, but I doubt it matches what I've been taught

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

okay that's a bit far

It has been clear throughout scriptures that unborn lives matter and that murder is wrong due to people being created in the image of God

I get not hating lgbtq+ people - such a thing is wrong (You shall love your neighbour as yourself) but "marrying" homosexuals is not what this means...

Racism and misogyny is of course wrong as well, people are created in the image of God.

In my denomination/Church, we don't permit these things for good reason. Because the Bible is the final authority. In fact, the Bible will always oppose popular society trends. If the Bible doesn't offend you, you're reading it wrong. That's because of our sinful nature. So the Bible is anti racist and would have offended racists, same with greed, and then the cultural norms of today. It calls us to repent and convicts us of our sin. But at the same time, it's not typically a Christian's business what a non Christian does either (1 Corinthians 5:12-13) (Hence I have no issue with same-sex unions being legal on a civil/legal level)

[–] zloubida@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Let's agree to disagree.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 days ago

Let me correct your statement slightly.

"Most probably can't read."

Is anyone even surprised? This seems very par for the course for religious extremists. A lot of Islamic extremists terrorists were previously things like Drug dealers or or such who rarely appeared at Mosques.

Most Christians probably have never read the Bible? Have you? I have and it's... a challenge.

And Christians mostly follow the New Testament, btw, not the Bible.

[–] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 days ago

I have little doubt that the percentage of atheists who've read the whole bible is significantly larger than the percentage of people who call themselves christians who have done so, and still larger than the percentage of them who've only read the new testament.

[–] BitUnWise@programming.dev 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

When talking about Christianity, the Bible refers to both the old and new testament. And while Christians don't typically follow the "laws" in the old testament, it is still a huge part of Christianity

[–] Damage@slrpnk.net 1 points 4 days ago

I guess it depends on a few factors, but yeah. Christians aren't really required to read their holy texts anyway, the clergy have always been the "interface" to the scripture, for... Reasons.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

There's a MEGA movement? Jeebus help us all

[–] AMoralNihilist@feddit.uk 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I doubt most can read at all

[–] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They're taking the hobbits to Isengard

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Alive. And unspoiled!

[–] PunkMonk@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

In-group vs out-group is all it is, modern day tribalism. And calling oneself a Christian patriot is nothing more than a less outspokenly racist way of idenitfying as a white supremacist.

They all know this, all of us here should know this, it's the less politically knowledgeable white members of the public who don't particularly know this, which are their main targets to bring to their movement

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 6 days ago

religion is primarily a tool used by the ruling class (or those attempting to become the ruling class) to manipulate the masses to their own ends

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

They just take what supports their ideology and ignore all the rest.

And to be honest, it's actually quite a decent way of living. But then you also have to accept teachings from other religions as well as atheism. Otherwise you're just a selfish cunt.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 days ago

I'm actually kinda surprised. I figured people go to church to learn how to be racist. If you didn't have a bunch of bigots around you telling you how to hate the other, you probably wouldn't have that attitude. And fuck knows, Christians can certainly do bigotry proud.
