This is actually a perfect way of showing how the libs don't get it. "Vote like your life and the lives of every vulnerable person in the country depends on it" is exactly how they framed the last 3 elections.

So why do they only stop at voting? That was the entire point Tom Morello made in that interview, and he made it incredibly clear and coherent. If it's so consequential that Trump doesn't become president, then why isn't there more resistance? Why do people accept the president that clearly tried to steal one election in 2020?

Instead they focus on the only acceptable form of political participation as the end all be all. If all you have to do is vote blue, then you don't have to feel bad about failing those vulnerable people because you did all you could.

I wonder what the intent and impact of Kamala Harris valuing Israel over defeating Donald Trump was? Can any lib answer that central question?

Is Harris not a grown ass women who can make her own choices? Did she not side with the zionists gleefully and sadistically while ignoring internal polling that proved she was losing votes because of that choice?

This is why libs only vague post about this, because those questions act like a blowtorch to their flimsy cope narratives

[–] WalleyeWarrior@midwest.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

Libs in the Imperial Core never met an oppressed minority they aren't happy to throw under the bus to maintain their standing.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

The question they also deeply don't want to answer is why were they trying to convince millions to overlook genocide rather than convince just the one person to not do that; they spent all that energy on millions when they only needed to convince one person.

do usians even know how their own system works? even mr. chomsky managed to figure out that voting third party in blue or red state is perfectly safe (in the most utilitarian/virtue ethics systems, as you aren't possibly responsible for result anyways) way to express dissatisfaction, a feat of intellectualism that eludes libs, including hasan and the rest of podcasting scene. much less possessing moral clarity to vote third party or none of the above in any conditions

[–] Athena5898@hexbear.net 35 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

They do not. Though most of the time it's willful ignorance. The amount of time I've tried to explain that land has more voting rights...

Honestly the way people act about it is very Christian. Everyone uses the outcomes to fuel their beliefs in "human nature" despite have conflicting opinions. It's honestly a wild thing to behold.

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 23 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Because D vs R is a silent Civil War between very different cultures and actually has very little to do with "the issues". It's more of an emotional thing to spite the hateful racist crackers on the R side more than "improving access to healthcare" or whatever slop the Dems say they support.

I wish Democrats were honest about it.

Do you ever watch sports? Because I don't, but my whole family does, and it's very much like that. It doesn't matter to them that the policies don't really change, and both teams keep supporting the system. What matters to them is that the "good team" wins.

[–] Ember_NE@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 2 weeks ago

Voting blue "no matter who" let's them vote their labor aristocratic and imperialist interests via-a-vis the global south, while also maintaining a smug sense of superiority about it. Just accepting that you might need to vote for a third candidate if you want to change anything might lead them to dangerous conclusions like internationalism or doing something actually useful instead of voting and posting on twitter about voting

Tom Morello cares about all people's lives, not just Americans, shocker

Liberals are really losing their minds, now that their own lives are affected negatively too by their own shitty politics (although mostly just financially). And it seems like they prefer taking it out on minorities and left-wingers, just constantly calling us all kinds of names to let out their frustration. At the same time though, they yell at trans people to shut up, because us whining about trivial stuff like humans rights and so is off-putting to potential voters.

So in the end, they're not those pragmatic cold-logic driven people that are doing anything to win elections. They're just hypocritical shitheads that are throwing temper-tantrums every time something doesn't work the way they want it to. Even right before an election they can't even drop their snarkiness to win over potential voters, but expect those they see beneath them to sacrifice their own lives to get anyone with a D next to their name into power

Every time these movie-brained assholes propose some reality where they lose the election and everybody just suddenly fucking dies, I want to shake them into unconsciousness while screaming primally. It's so fucking childish and it's always deployed in service of the most monstrous treatler attitudes towards the people actually fighting the fascist empire, the people who the instruments of instant mass death are actually reserved for and for whom that shit is actually on the table. But no, fuck them because having morals or a spine might put me in the path of 1% of the ruination i regularly cosign in the name of endless shrimp. To put being a lib and being a Palestinian on the same rhetorical level is insulting enough, but then to say "and actually my situation is more dire because it's happening to me, so those kids are just gonna have to starve" is so fucking smugly, thoughtlessly depraved. I truly hate these people and their smug, racist Victorian self-righteousness in ways I will spend the rest of my life trying to describe. It's like a glass sphere of pressurized ink in my heart, black and perfect and ready to cut through diamond.

The way they were so quick to brand themselves The Resistance during Trump 1, so fucking twee and self-satisfied while they did nothing but rake in T shirt money and cape for a vegetative war criminal, was a prelude to their ultimate feat of self-importance: making a genocide that they are collaborators of all about them.

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 17 points 2 weeks ago

In what universe does Wil Wheaton believe his life would be threatened by Trump being president? Liberals have become indistinct from 2008 conservatives who thought Obama would personally send every old white person to a FEMA execution chamber. I also think wealthy public liberals are also finally confronting that both major parties are in lockstep agreement when it comes to imperialism and the Zionist project. But instead of viewing this as an indictment of America, liberals are treating it more like it's an apolitical force of nature that simply happens. It's impossible to stop Israel, and it's impossible to stop America's external warfare, so why keep discussing it? Why think about it?

So in the liberal mind the only choice you have is domestic policy, even though that's considerably fake as well. I guess liberals are gonna have to go through a process where they narrow down the appeals of Democrats further and further. Because the last election was about how there's a genocide of Palestinians, but voting can't impact that, so at least you can vote for the rights of marginalized people domestically. But by 2028 I think even that message won't work, so maybe it'll be voting for the rights of people in specific states, or specific cities.

You don't have to be a genius to see the democrats did the same thing in 2024 that they did in 2004. They promised to do warfare and imperialism competently. They promised the genocide in Gaza would continue, but operated more efficiently than how a republican would handle it.

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 25 points 2 weeks ago

In what universe does Wil Wheaton believe his life would be threatened by Trump being president?

Wil Wheaton likes to enjoy beef hollandaise on Sundays and the way that beef prices have gone up led him to firing his favorite personal assistant during a fit of misdirected anger. This was internalized as Trump's fault.

[–] Andrzej3K@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

They already established that healthcare is out of bounds so domestic stuff is pretty limited, but I'm sure they can narrow things down even further

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 37 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Kamala would have won if she had come out and promised to do things differently, mostly on Gaza/aid to the Zionist Entity and some real trifling domestic promises, Joe Biden was a losing candidate and promising to be like Joe was tantamount to professing a suicide pact.

My dear Wil do you know why she couldn’t make that very simple pivot? Because the unelected masters of this place would not allow it. No amount of voting gets rid of those guys. They’re unelected.

[–] JimLarkin@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I don't know the details of US elections but from a distance it looked like just choosing to run her was an intentional decision to hand the presidency to Trump and the Republicans.

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago

she started with a promise to do price caps or some such, that combined with the campaign calling the republiklans weird was doing numbers on the polls. So of course they dropped all those and started going around with Liz Cheney while refusing to drop Joe Biden and his genocidal legacy.

so yeah, either you're correct or they're just really bad at this

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

I don't think it was their choice to run her. The choice they made was to nominate Biden's corpse to prevent the contest for the next Democratic nominee from becoming a referendum on genocide. She was the backup plan after that exploded in their face.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

They ran with some extremely cursed and mind melting argument that since voters had voted for Biden before he dropped and Kamala was running in lieu of Biden she just had to adopt his awful stances or it would be seen as “a betrayal” to those who had chosen Biden

This was all so they wouldn’t have to scrap the primary and re-run it.

Edit: changed “strategies” to “stances” for clarity

[–] JimLarkin@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

But then she ran on a genocide ticket anyway?

[–] Andrzej3K@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh wow this is genuinely interesting because iirc he has always used his platform to pump Dem presidential candidates come election time. He definitely pledged for Hillary for example!

[–] EatMoreMacroplastics@hexbear.net 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

he has always used his platform to pump Dem presidential candidates come election time

I haven't always followed closely what he had to say on the issue, idk what his support for Hillary was, but RATM released Battle of Los Angeles back in 1999 and went out promoting it with the single and the video for Guerilla Radio, which includes the line "More for Gore or the son of a drug lord? None of the above, fuck it, cut the chord", put in the context of a song that is all about imperialist wars in the Middle East, especially the Gulf War and the following decade of embargos and regular bombings that cost the lifes of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people, and decries "the vultures that thirst for blood and oil", mind you, two years before 9/11 kicked off the final act in AmeriKKKas ruination of Iraq. Now i'd argue that was one of the more lib songs on the album, considering that they have an entire track built around Chairman Mao's quote that "a single spark can start a prairie fire", but getting a song that disavows both candidates in heavy rotation on MTV, in the middle of Gore's campaign for the White House, back when MTV actually played a role in tastemaking, isn't exactly pumping Dem candidates.

OFC Hillary ran 17 years after that. It's possible Morello may have had a ton of shit takes in the meantime. He's a rock star, after all, i actually expect as much. But when i read the interview excerpts on here this weekend, as somebody who grew up up playing the RATM studio albums back and forth, i wasn't surprised at all that he didn't vote for Harris.

[–] Andrzej3K@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

His pattern has normally been to have very good politics until election time, at which point he feels compelled to voice support for the Dem candidate for the duration of the campaign, and then to return to good takes when the election is over. I've been off Twitter for a few years now, but I would have expected him to say least post some 'lesser of two evils' stuff near election day.

And yes, RATM had incredible lyrics. The second verse to Bulls on Parade has to be some of the sickest bars ever recorded.

Dem chorus: "O-M-G! We're gonna vote so hard!" Moments later - "Addenda: We do not mean mean that in sexual context!"
