I was trying to diagnose how on earth does this thing drain battery even when plugged in. It's in 5V mode, ffs. Temporarily fixed this by using my thinkpad charger, but I guess I need to get new a brick after all.

If anyone else has charging issues, I used Powersupply and Mission Center in the screenshot.

Yeah different chargers/battery packs will have different supported voltage/amp outputs. These are required to be listed on the charger/battery, usually in fine print. Also, 15v/3A is a standard combination though, and is required to be present in any official USB-C device that covers 45w or more.

So if your 100w brick can't do 15v, it either means that it's not an official USB-C certified charger (lots of cheap online chargers aren't official and break USB-C spec), or that the power negotiation is failing (due to damaged cord/dirty connector/etc) and it's falling back on 5v as a minimum output to be safe.

Yeah, I just assumed it's broken, because it really should be able to do it. The laptop it had once charged fine also complains now.

Funnily enough, my puny phone brick that goes up to 12V1.5A is enough to sustain the battery even while running standalone.

While your laptop complaining now does point to the charger being the problem, do keep in mind most laptops charge with 20 V. And annoyingly there are USB-C chargers out there, which can only do 5 V or 20 V, but are missing the 9 V and 12 V (usually used by phones) and the 15 V used for stuff like the Steamdeck or Frame (looking at you, Dell).

Did you manged to get 15V3A working yet? I only seem to be able to go to ~26W charging max so far (but adapter is from Valve and can do 15V3A)Charging curve

I've not seen mine or heard of anyone elses hitting 45W. I can barely get it to pass 30W while charging+playing.

It's unlikely the Frame can charge at that speed, as that would fill the small battery in less than 30 minutes.

It might still be using 15V, the amperage of each mode is not constant. Devices can pull as much or as little as they want.

Didn't pay much attention to it after finding the thinkpad brick. It negotiated 15V3A, but I assume the frame is never going to pull the whole 3A budget.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have a PD 3.0 charger that does 20V?

That’s what they recommend at least under accessories

I am also having charging issues. Thank you for this.
