I didn't realise it still wasn't actually out, I wonder what they're waiting for

[–] popcar2@piefed.ca 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's still unfinished in many ways. It's very easy to join the open beta, and there are threads where people invite randoms into it, but they don't want to start advertising it just yet.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

By the time they do, everyone will have gotten their fill of playing it.

[–] ITGuyLevi@programming.dev 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I'm just hearing about it and it looks pretty cool, but the weird way they are doing this feels too odd for me. It makes me want to play it but know I never will.

[–] alessandro@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It must be some kind of fresh new marketing system, I would call it the "Star Citizen" marketing system.

[–] RicoRodriguez42@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Except that this is free, and actually fun

[–] moonlight@fedia.io 14 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I'm kinda not interested at this point. I would have 100% tried it if it was an open beta, but at this point when it releases everyone will have had years of experience playing already, which sucks for new players for this sort of game.

And no im not going to beg some random for an invite.

[–] ITGuyLevi@programming.dev 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, I feel the same way. Definitely puts an odd taste in the mouth the way they are doing it. Thankfully there are more games out there, due to life I probably have nearly 1,000 unplayed games in my Steam library.

[–] Daedskin@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

For Valve, this is actually a more open way than they have historically done. Typically Valve publicly gives very little to no information on a project until it's done or almost done.

[–] ITGuyLevi@programming.dev 4 points 1 week ago

I'm 1,000,000% cool with both open and closed beta's, but when a "closed" beta breaks records of online players like that, is it actually closed? The game has been throughly documented before its release... Feels like reading a booked based on a movie after watching the movie.

[–] MagicPterodactyl@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn't it basically an open bata? I remember it being extremely easy to get an invite.

[–] Danitos@reddthat.com 7 points 1 week ago

Yeap. Anybody can invite any friend to the beta and that's it.

Althought I agree, at that point just make it a truly open beta.

[–] Trilogy3452@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Matchmaking should match you with new players. It takes about an hour to get the basics enough to start having fun

[–] Blemgo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The question would be when the amount of people who complete newcomers will have fun playing around with will be too small, thus pushing more skilled players to be in the same game.

In TF2 even quickplay games were/are amazing because the game itself still is fun with an absolutely uncoordinated team, and random crits alongside players seeking action will often keep more players from always pubstomping, and it is so chaotic because the team size is big enough for uncoordinated pushes to get you somewhere.

I don't see how a MOBA, which has a very small team size by design and generally is more strategic, will find a similar footing in terms of new player friendliness.

[–] Trilogy3452@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah it all hinges on having a large enough player count. You might not understand what's happening in lower ranks so you instead focus on playing in Overwatch mode instead :)

My biggest gripe is related, where there's no control over what type of players you'd be matched with. I like those that communicate with their microphone, but there's no way to filter for that. Overwatch had lobbies you can create to queue together, and you could put the type of group it is in the description/title

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I tried it but the learning curve isn't something I'm interested in. It's pretty much the same reason why I can't get into mobas.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

It has pretty drastic changes as it goes. So it’s not that bad

[–] popcar2@piefed.ca 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The new patch is amazing. I feel like the game is getting close to being opened for the public. Wild that I have 500 hours on a game that hasn't been formally announced yet.

[–] ieightpi@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Damn I got an invite years ago and still haven't opened it up. Maybe it's time

[–] popcar2@piefed.ca 4 points 1 week ago

It's a good time to jump in, there are a lot of new and returning players right now and everyone is re-learning the new map (as well as the 6 new characters that are releasing).

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 1 points 1 week ago

Their patch notes do seem to imply they're getting ready to get ready for release

Do not use archive.is or archive.today! The site is basically a DDOS attack and has been proven to modify the content of the articles it "archives"!

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/02/wikipedia-bans-archive-today-after-site-executed-ddos-and-altered-web-captures/

[–] jnod4@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Which one's the good one then?

[–] passenger@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

There is no good one I am aware of. The common archive links all seem to be to mirrors of this malicious site.

Unless someone else knows of one, I would suggest that people link to the original article. If you read some site a lot, pay for the sub, or you have trouble reading it, you can ask for a paste. You can also always try the firefox reader mode.

Internet Archive (i know this one: archive.org), Ghostarchive, or Megalodon Is what the article mentioned as better alternitives.

You can only play the game, after an invitation. Let this sink in for a moment.

Deadlock is even more of a skill expression game with lots of deep complexity (does not mean complicated), where you can get better a lot. I'm big fan of hero shooters like Team Fortress 2, Overwatch and Marvel Rivals. Deadlock doesn't have the same game goals and is more of a MOBA. And that's excellent, but I really do not like MOBAs. But I want to like and play Deadlock, looks like the next big game for me. I have it in my account since it first appeared and played it a few times.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

lol ... I paid for an invitation. To be fair, I didn't "have" to pay but I decided to buy the person who invited me from this gaming discord a game on their wishlist as a thank you.

I enjoy Deadlock but I know I dont' have the fundamental mechanics to go very far with the game.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

That's a nice gesture. I was first worried you meant that you purchased an invitation from a "black market" of sorts.

As for the game itself, I'm a person who do not like to play Eearly Access games usually. This is another factor why I don't get into deep. But meanwhile I watched video reviews and "tutorials" a lot, just because this game is interesting to me.

[–] crazyminner@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Thats surprising. I played it shortly and it was kind of boring. I guess people have different tastes.

[–] Baggie@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Depends on what you're into perhaps, there's a surprising amount of depth in most of the systems which keeps it engaging to me.

[–] crazyminner@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe close to a year ago.

[–] arak@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

Oh man, they have changed the game so many times since then, try again there are new modes to play

[–] viking@beehaw.org 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I like playing support heroes in Deadlock, but it's pretty tough to do that without teammates that will coordinate. Maybe that's just how all MOBAs are, or maybe I'm not a good enough player. I really want to like Deadlock but I don't think it's possible without partying regularly (for me anyway). TF2 was much easier to have fun. With only 6 players per team in Deadlock, teamwork is extremely important in my experience. I don't think it's a good game for casuals, at least not casual support players.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

pretty tough to do that without teammates that will coordinate. Maybe that’s just how all MOBAs are,

That's all hero shooters in casual mode for you. Wait until competitive mode appears and the game starts to get big in esports as well. Sure in lower ranks even in competitive nobody cares about their healers, but at that time you should have enough experience and skill to play on a bit higher ranks than low, and its will be better teamplay (hopefully).

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How are people playjng it if it isn't out yet? 🤔

[–] GottaHaveFaith@fedia.io 6 points 1 week ago

it's in closed beta
