The year is 2073.

Alonso’s great-grandson gets his first contract with an F1 team, and now gets to drive alongside his great-grandfather, who is still racing at whichever team will let him.

Honda have just returned to the sport after a 1 year hiatus. Every team on the grid is now a former Honda works team.

Scuderia Ferrari HP Honda gonna be fire

It seems El Plan is multi-generational

'I still feel as fast as anybody' - Alonso on why he's staying in F1 https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/articles/cde0gz51g36o

Alonso: Because he's the only good driver willing to drive for Aston.

Stroll: Son of the owner. Has no interest to be in F1 but stays because that's the deal he has with daddy who'd not fund the lavish lifestyle otherwise.

I think Alonso is trying to get into daddy Stroll's will. He's playing the long game to be the son he always wanted with a WDC

I mean they’ve got Newey right? I assume he’s still just as capable as ever, and they’re mainly being let down by Honda’s dog of a PU. Maybe next year Honda will deliver (a man can dream…)

Aston Martin are the Lance Stroll of F1 teams.

Feels like they're just role playing.

JFC, bring in some new blood already. A has-been and a never-was aren't going to build a winning team, brand, or a fan base. Does Aston have any fans? At all?

Alonso is a has-been only in the context of him being a two time champ and probably not being able to hit that high again. But let's not downplay how good he is. He's still better than at least half the grid. Just look at 2023. 2023 was a fight for the third place in the WDC and Alonso came in fourth behind Hamilton. The clock is definitely ticking but I doubt he's a has-been in the sense that he'd be the bottleneck for a winning team. If anything Aston Martin is seriously bottlenecking the potential Alonso has.

That's 4 post 40 y/o seasons ago, he's done very little since that great beginning in 2023. He's 45 now and the decline will continue. There's really no "coming back" from the aging process, he will continue to get slower and slower. Better to finally hang it up now (again) and give the seat to a deserving younger driver.
