Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

It's politics, a popularity contest. The climate has been beat to death as a topic, while anti-data center anger is the new hotness. Does this obviousness really have to be "explained?"

Best to death and yet almost nothing being done.

You do realize we like live in the environment and it’s sorta the only one we have.

They do kind of have to get elected if they wanna get elected, which means talking about things people are engaged with

Which is shitty and dysfunctional, but they're not wrong that talking about it more and more doesnt seem like the best electoral strategy. Our electoral process is not very good at organizing things by actual importance :/

We stopped talking about the climate? I must have imagined all the articles about it.

The bribes from lobbyists have moved away from climate oriented legislation to other tangential issues and increasingly to issues that are after effects from failing to address climate change, like water scarcity, immigration, energy needs, etc

What you see in this community is very very far from what most Americans run into.

I mean Data Centers is the latest industrial boom and nor so great for the climate, so. I would hardly say focusing in on that topic is not moving away from Climate, more like offering a material target the people can strike at and feel like they are doing something
