find one you like, that's 'perfect', couple months later you go back to get another..
they either don't exist anymore, or are made different despite packaging and labeling saying they're the same right down to the same upc code.
The inverse happened to me just recently. Tried out every "soft" brush in the store, all hard to medium. Bought one of them again and it's feather soft. There has to be regulation on this because it just pisses me off to play toothbrush roulette.

How is your toothbrush damaging? You don't need to press as hard as you can!!
Too hard (and too big) brushes can cause gum recession. Source: dentist and experience.
If your gums aren't healthy, it won't matter how lightly you press if the bristles are too hard.
Ask your dentist why they recommend soft toothbrushes next time you see them

You're not using the wire bristle brushes are you? Those aren't for teeth.

I've never had a dentist or hygienist recommended any specific type of toothbrush to me outside of electric toothbrushes. The big thing they seem to care about is flossing.
American here, but ive been recommended soft brushes my entire life. Ive also been given soft brushes for free by dentists.

Clearly you've never had a soft brush. A "normal" brush will irritate my gums even when I press gently. An actual soft brush is comfortable no matter how hard I press.

unless that brush is literal sand paper this shiuld resolve your issue
I just buy the two pack of Colgate brushes at Dollar Tree and they are always the same softness.
That's why you should have a desk tomato.
