I used to think I didn't like maple syrup, but one day I paid more for a local organic kind. That was when I realized that not only do I like it, but that maple syrup is quite possibly my favorite sweetener and up until that point I had only ever been eating artificially flavored corn syrup.
And we've always loved not being threatened with annexation by our closest trade partners. Truly a match made in heaven.
Swede here, I had never tasted maple syrup before a few weeks ago, when I bough some mostly as a way to support Canada, well it was a symbolic gesture....
Anyway, I tested some on some excellent Swedish ice cream.
Really nice combo.
Minnesotan here. My friendβs dad had some maple trees heβd make syrup with and it goes hard on Swedish pancakes as well!
I realize that it's a bit of a delicacy for you, but maple syrup, in very light amounts, can be an excellent addition to savory dishes as well. It gives a touch of sweetness, and a hint of maple flavoring.
Maple in sausages is incredible.
Maple bacon also slaps
I like a little knock in my coffee sometimes.
I put ~6g along with cinnamon in oatmeal on occasion and it's really nice.
Tell me more about this Swedish ice cream. I am interested in any and all ice cream not made by evil corporations.
That specific ice cream was made by an evil corp, but we have other brands which are not, I will post some brands later today.

In celebration, I had both Sleeman and Bavaria last night.

That's what I've been wondering too. Wee certainly don't have any "relationship" with maple syrup. It's just EU tryiny to confirm ties with Canada.
Thick breakfast pancakes are just not the same without it! Can't go back.
I wouldn't necessarily put maple syrup on a crepe, but I'm sure it can be negotiated.
A maple syrup crepe can be absolutely magnificent. I suggest trying one. Or one made with maple sugar.

My wife and I visited Germany 3 years ago and had apple pancakes. Absolutely incredible.
But honestly, all of the food we had in Germany was great. I know it's Frankfurt specific, but my wife got addicted to grΓΌne sauce and is upset she can't get it in Canada. After the speech yesterday, one of the first things she said to me was, "Does this mean we'll be able to get grΓΌne sauce in Canada?"
I'm German, apples in pancakes are obvious. Just haven't had any syrup of any kind on them. Guess I'm the weird one out then.

Southern german here. I have never seen pancakes with syrup either. But around here you are not even getting pancakes anywhere anyway. It's always CrΓͺpes or Kaiserschmarrn instead.

Pancakes are a thing in most of Europe. That's their english common name. I would call a bliny a pancake, too. This isn't crepe or galette hate.
This wasn't meant to be taken seriously. Up to the point where in French, blinis are defined as a type of crΓͺpe.
FWIW you can also get French-style crepes in Canada.
