Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1907 readers
129 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

Relevant comms

MODERATORS

I've been posting things that Ethan Klein (host of the H3H3 Podcast) has said and done into the H3H3 Podcast community and the mod decided that relevant content wasn't good enough to participate.

I'll take my community ban and won't fight it, but it's the very definition of petty mod behavior.

Mod: @surfrock66@lemmy.world

This was the comment that got me banned:

I clearly know enough about Ethan Klein and the H3H3 Podcast to be a participant in some form.

If what I’m posting is the truth, why is it such a problem to post it here? Doesn’t Ethan stand by what he says and does?

Sounds like dude wanted a fan club and doesnt want negative stuff posted there. Also seems like this compounds his frustrations over the community having few posters. PTB, if you can't take criticism from one poster in your public forum dont make it public.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They have all the tools to make it so they are the only user allowed to post. I think they're delusional to think that there are many H3H3 fans on Lemmy of all places, but I would have never bothered them if it was a closed community.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Also how much do you actually post there? He was cryin' like it was every day but I could only find 2 posts before I gave up it was so far back. You live rent free in that guy's head.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 20 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It was maybe once a week or so and I started kinda recently. Mostly updates on Ethan Klein's lawsuits against other youtubers and then a compilation of clips from the podcast.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 14 points 3 weeks ago

Wild, living rent free in that Moe's head for tiny reasons.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Aight, nobody is going to like this response.

This isn't PTB, but it isn't YDI either.

The mod in question gave a clear and valid reason for taking action. While I don't personally agree that it's the best specific action to take (a temp ban would have been the appropriate step imo), it is perfectly acceptable to insist on a fan club atmosphere in what amounts to a fan club community. Is lemmy/fediverse the best place for a fan club forum? Hell no, but it is the least bad place that's publicly accessible.

However, your comments and posts were also perfectly acceptable when using a community on the fediverse. The c/ is hosted here, is public, and you were on topic. As I already said, if the mod in question had taken other steps first, it is possible that you would have left the community on your own, so this isn't a case of someone being a bad actor, or at least not in a way I can see. That means no YDI.

The other acronyms don't apply here either. It isn't an ESH imo. This would be a "people sometimes don't fit other's expectations" PSDFOE. Nobody was an asshole that I could see. Nobody was doing anything just to fuck with other people.

Agreed, this seems like the system working as intended, now there is also a place to specifically post h3 snark, this seems like everything worked out fine.

[–] slacktoid@lemmy.ml 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Seems like the mods just noticed you and hammered down lmao. I mean h3 gonna h3 what did you expect lmao!!

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 weeks ago

I mean h3 gonna h3 what did you expect lmao

This mod is keeping the tradition alive, I guess hahah

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

Shout out to the power trippin mod that banned me so now I'm petty enough to make my own community to track Ethan Klein's deplorable actions here on Lemmy.

Thanks, babe <3

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I wish there was a snark community on lemmy, but probably no one would want to create one just for Ethan to sue them into oblivion.

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hell yeah, you go Velma! Subbed. I miss the h3snark subreddit so much. Looking forward to getting this new com going with you!!! 😁

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's one of two subreddits I still keep tabs on, the users there are so funny and empathetic and snarky haha. Happy to have you join in!

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Except it's been dead for a year ever since Ethan threatened/brought legal action against the mods, right?

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

There's a new one!

They're even more ruthless there. And be sure to check out the daily Megathread! It's a mix of criticizing H3H3, following Hasan's stuff, and users sharing their pet pics. It's kinda nice!

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago

Oh damn I've been missing out! Tysm

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

I’m certainly thinking about it after this hahaha

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Looks like he wanted a fan club but instead got a community about H3H3.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago

And just like on Reddit, their ban has now led to the creation of a snark community specifically to document Ethan Klein and his obsession with raping little boys, spreading hasbara, and harassing people.

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This ain’t no thing - in my opinion. I think it boils down to people having different levels of netiquette.

Men want to comment on women’s communities… bigots want to abuse Blahaj… people get on their moral high horse over literal shitposts… people want to speak bad in fan communities… etc etc

We’re not all welcome everywhere. For differing reasons.

Don’t folk sometime look around a community, read the room, and then think that, actually, perhaps this community ain’t for me?

[–] Audacious@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's like walking into a gay bar and complaining why there are gay people there. There is a reason why these types of communities existed, with an echo chamber moniker on reddit, and now on Lemmy.

And some lemmy instances are just too conservative, like .world, but it's not overtly noticeable.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Tbf, the community was about the H3H3 podcast and I was posting about the H3H3 podcast.

[–] Audacious@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I haven't been paying much attention to H3 or other political influencers, because they seem to all have something terrible going on. This fiasco on Lemmy exposed me to H3's current take over Ed Sheeran's debacle. I didn't realize H3 is really leaning into the Zionist side now.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I didn’t realize H3 is really leaning into the Zionist side now.

Yeah they're full Zionist after the failed attempt at doing a podcast with Hasan Piker called The Leftovers. Ethan went all in on the hasbara after Oct 7 and has become completely obsessed with taking down Hasan and attacking those on the left.

It's funny that the H3H3 community mod banning me has exposed more of Ethan's bullshit on Lemmy.

[–] AzuranAurora@piefed.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

I had absolutely no idea about any of this til now as well, so the Streisand Effect is doing its job! A hearty "fuck you" to Ethan Klein and his ilk.

[–] AWistfulNihilist@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This is kinda how it works. The mod was pretty clear about not wanting the content, you created a separate c/ to specifically talk about the snark side of H3 when the fan community didn't want to engage with it.

Which I get btw, very few fan communities embrace a controversy.

This kinda seems like how it's supposed to work, especially on this diaspora based system.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I wouldn't have created my own community and put as much of Klein's controversies here if the mod had allowed for discussion about the H3H3 podcast in the H3H3 podcast community.

[–] AWistfulNihilist@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I mean not to call you out for being obtuse, but you're being obtuse. You posted something about an h3 controversy, the mod pretty politely told you they didn't want it in that community, so you created a more appropriate community for what you wanted to post.

Again that's how it seems like it works, no matter how much you want to lean on “it's an h3 forum and this is h3 news," That's a silly, kinda childish take. It ignores all the previous context.

But good on you for creating a snark community, I will be blocking both communities if I see them, because I'm not chronically online enough to be part of any streamer community.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I posted what Ethan Klein, the host of the H3H3 podcast, posted on his Instagram. It was the same post that was posted in the main H3H3 podcast subreddit. It is relevant regardless of my personal opinions about it.

If Ethan Klein doesn't want people discussing his opinions on his podcast, then he shouldn't put them out in public.

Again, this mod disallowing discussion about the H3H3 podcast is what has spurred me to make sure everyone on Lemmy sees what a piece of shit Ethan is rather than just fostering discussion about it.

[–] AWistfulNihilist@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Right, you're still being obtuse, and still ignoring any context, again now you have a place for your snark that is not a fan page.

Listen, this is very much turning into a "can I see you manager, there's no sign saying I can't smoke here" from you.

But that's ok, cause you have your own store now where you are the manager and you can say anything you want about h3.

Edit: I also feel like I should point out, you aren't in an argument with Ethan Kline, you are wanting to post something to a Lemmy fan discussion page they don't want, and you are dealing with the mod of the community.

Assigning any of that righteous h3 to them is like parasocial and weird in the same way being obsessive about a celebrity is. I'm getting uncomfortable with the vitriol and anger at Ethan Kline you are assigning to a mod on Lemmy. I get being mad at h3, but like take a step back here.

mod really sounds like he's having a bad day i think. feed him italian wedding soup.
