I literally cannot get it across to local Leftists (its thr punk scene. So its the type of anarchists we are allowed to make fun of and not the other kind ive heard exists somewhere, I know there are cool ones cause of here, but my irl experience had been...mixed at best) that Ukraine and Palestine are not remotely similar things and supporting Palestine and not Ukraine isnt at all hypocritical and in fact is a very very consistent position. Thr amount og times ive been asked if I support Palestine as if theyre the same thing is over 5. It's deeply disturbing.

You should just avoid taking seriously the politics of these punk scene friends of yours. They're clearly just doing it for aesthetic. They're not serious about their ideology, so you need not worry about them in a serious sense.

Someone who studies even cursory Marxism, Anarchism, or any even remotely-anticapitalist position simply doesn't have issues conflating Palestine and Ukraine.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

I don't. And these ones arent my friends aew are super serious about their ideology. Just not enough to researxh things.

Lol not even simply the ukkkraine flag, but a 'united24' one, a propaganda outlet less truthful than even the 'kyivpost' and 'pravda.com.ua'

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 36 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Weird how people/mods other places are extremely happy to share united24 links while attacking other propaganda platforms (if they're from the wrong countries of course)

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

'Their biased propagandists' vs 'Our noble truthtelling journalists'

Outlets from either belligerent in a war or those from states that supply them weapons shouldn't be trusted for accurate information on that war

Its the Flag of the Donetsk People's Republic, One of the regions that separated from the rest of Ukraine after the Maidan coup. Because that's where the majority of the Russian first language minority(who make up 1/3 of Ukraine's population) lived, after the Kyiv regime discriminated against them(banning their language in schools etc) and the Nazi battalions like Azov were shelling their residential areas(this is all prior to the 2022 russian 'SMO'), it was later eventually officially annexed into the Russian federation along with the Luhansk People's Republic

Its a Russian tricolour with the text:

Π”ΠžΠΠ•Π¦ΠšΠΠ― (Donetskaya) – Donetsk

Π Π•Π‘ΠŸΠ£Π‘Π›Π˜ΠšΠ (Respublika) – Republic

And the double headed eagle is a symbol of the pre-soviet Russian empire

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

That one always throws me off because the black on top and red on bottom I thought at first it was one of the blood and soil flags.

[–] SwitchyandWitchy@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Thank you, I thought it was something like that but I got confused when I read Johnny_Arson's comment.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

that's where the majority of the Russian first language minority

Just a phrasing clarification so nobody gets mixed up. The breakaway republics are not hte majority of the Russian language minority, but they are the most Russian of any regions of the country (because it's actually just a gradient from west to east on a spectrum and the line between Russia and Ukraine is fake)

~~Go live up to your namesake fuckface. Get vaporized by a Russian artillery strike.~~ I'm an idiot.

As I said to @ClathrateG@hexbear.net I thought it was just a Ukraine flag or even an Azov one because of the trident. Is that wrong?

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

There's no trident in the Soulja Boy pic you initially replied to, the symbol in the center is a Russian imperial eagle. There's the UAF trident on the flag in the OP image with Ed Sheeran(but no Soulja Boy)

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

ah shit my bad my brain is cooked I had a super bad day at work cool of Soulja boy tho. I thought it was another variant of a Ukrainian nationalist flag. Also literally cooked it was like 105 3 days in a row here this past week.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

tbf sometimes you just have to crank that

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Anyway here are some rats playing basketball:

Now if she can train them to play defense that would be really impressive, though I imagine there might be ethical concerns.

there is no trident on the dpr flag

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

Yea I get that now sorry its been a long day.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Its a DPR flag? so don't you mean Ukrainian/western artillery? unless you're buying into the 'Russia bombs their own troops' trope

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

wait what?! lmao so he's pro Israel and pro DPR. What a weird guy. I was thrown off by the trident.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Soljua boy is pro Israel?

The only thing I can find slightly related is that he recorded a 'Cameo'(that site where you can pay washed up celebrities a few hundred bucks to read out a personal messages) apparently he shouted out the 'GDL'(The Goyim Defence League, a groyper group) and later apologised and this was back in 2018 before the current phase of the genocide. He hasn't made any statements defending the entity as far as I can see.

perhaps you're thinking of someone else?

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

idk I was going off the context of the post and assumed this was related. I have no idea what is going on I just got off work and today was hard. Had to tell a dude he is going to probably have to shell out another $1500 at the emergency vet or his cat will probably die. I'm in super doomer mood rn.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I think you may have replied to the Soulja Boy/DPR flag pic comment when you meant to reply to the OP Ed Sheeran/UAF flag post, easy mistake to make

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Nah I am just dumb. So used to people I thought were cool turning out to be garbage people lately.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

you're not dumb you just made a small mistake. you handled finding that out really well if you ask me, so props for that

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That Goyim Defense League shoutout tho holy shit lol. At least he handled that well also. Gotta be pretty terminally online to immediately recognize that as a Nazi thing I guess.

Shortly before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the band joined the Territorial Defense Forces, having previously served as volunteers since the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014. In March 2022, the band made an appeal to perform remotely in the Concert for Ukraine, a benefit concert raising funds for those affected by the Russian invasion. Their appeal included a message to singer Ed Sheeran via TikTok. The band were refused a place at the concert due to their association with the military. In response, Sheeran collaborated with the band on a remix of his song "2step", with profits from streams of the music video being donated to Music Saves UA, a fundraising project created to provide humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Holy shit. Fucking wall with this fucking guy.

so he's willing to go against his venues when it's for the nazis

This is truly whipped dog behavior, it's not like Sheeran is actually cares that much otherwise he would have never had Macklemore on in the first place.

They literally just yanked his leash and he fell in line that easily. I've seen regular people lose their entire livlihoods and this gusano gets threatened with like what 1% of his revenue, an inconsiquential change to his lavish lifestyle and he folds instantly. It's pathetic

The greatest threat for such people is perspective to live the ordinary proletarian life. Though i don't ever seen any of them doing so, even the truly fallen ones either scrape the fringes of the business or just drug/drink themselves to death.

[–] deforestgump@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You see, Ukrainians are white. Checkmate lib! smuglord

[–] ourtimewillcome@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

i still remember that one western television clip, in which the pundit was saying something like

unlike middle-eastern refugees, ukrainians are relatively civilised, relatively european…

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

lmao they will still never admit slavs into the white club. The soviets saved the world from the Nazis and the west will never forgive them for that.

Almost every single villain in popular media depicting terrorists is always either middle eastern or slavic coded.

[–] oliveoil@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago

Guess what kinds of Iranian artists Ed Sheeran invited onto his music video for "Azizam"

He turned blue (ukraine and israel are blue)

[–] SwitchyandWitchy@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago

Banshees of Inisherin? ...more like the Bourgeoisie of Ed Sheeran

BLAMMO. gottem.

[–] Salah@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago (2 children)

What is that symbol on the flag?

[–] dead@hexbear.net 31 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Ukraine

The symbol is the Ukraine National symbol, adopted in 1992. United24 is a state-owned media agency of Ukraine. It would seem that Ed Sheeran visited the state media agency. It's similar to like BBC, except United24 broadcasts Ukrainian propaganda instead of British propaganda.

[–] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm shocked that you haven't seen this yet given how long the war has been going on for.

[–] Salah@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I have but I forgot again, it’s not an easy to recognise symbol as it’s not very obviously a trident.

[–] Andrzej3K@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

Uh, actually, not supporting Ukraine would be political. This is just normal default behaviour
