"...for a long list of goods."

You mean like anything that traveled a mile on a truck?

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Or was planted/harvested by a tractor.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 5 points 3 days ago

Boots? Licked

Datacentres run on diesel generators when the grid cannot provide enough power.

This is why diesel is so expensive.

[–] JamesBoeing737MAX@sopuli.xyz 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Also. Also the war and insider trading - you know the regular capitalism stuff.

[–] Salvo@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There is nothing “regular” about the current unregulated capitalism going on in the US at the moment.

So the shitty trading and deals are your pet peeve but not the attack on foreign oil producers.

The great pumpkin SANK 3 tankers last week. Not hijacked or shot at. But sank. Huge ecological disasters. This is all voluntary.

Too bad the train infrastructure in the USA is so abysmal.

$4.43 per gallon is still only ⅔ of the price as in Northern Europe right now lol. But I guess we're better off to pay for it? Less dependent on it? I dunno. I have an EV so it's whatever for me, personally.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah, I went by the image. Okay, $5.85 is still about ¾ of the price. 😄

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hasn't been that cheap in months in California. Diesel has been $7 a gallon since February

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Still less than 75 % of the maximum price of gasoline here during the pandemic in combination with the Ukraine war. 😅

Diesel is $8.30/gallon here now.

20 min bike ride. Also I don't use gasoline or diesel, I have an EV.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So your commute is a fraction of a commute in the US.

Here it might be a 30-45 minute ride in a car. One way. Do you see why $5 fuel would be a much larger problem here?

I have an EV

Good for you. So do I.

Everything you own and eat involves a diesel engine somewhere. That is the real problem. People with EV's have to eat still.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

So your commute is a fraction of a commute in the US.

lol what. My commute is that long. Lots of people have longer commutes than 30–45 minutes here too. I'm one person. An anecdote. 😆

Which could have been mitigated if the big railroad monopolies had electrified their rail like other large freight railroads but noooo no investment only squeezing profits.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Their goal is to make life nearly unlivable by elections so they can do something drastic.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

Winning looks so good

[–] Zomg@piefed.world 4 points 3 days ago

I'm sure plenty of diesel users in America voted for trump, so fuck em

Make all the things great, price tags, national debt, his book of crimes and general assholery is great enough to be split into volumes by now...

That's nothing, a gallon here would be $31. However in the bland UK, we use litres. Our price is about £1.90 a litre for diesel

[–] huppakee@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

1.9 x 3.8 (litre to gallon) x 1,35 (gbp to usd) = $9,75. Still a lot more, but not as high as $31.

[–] mhzawadi@lemmy.horwood.cloud 1 points 3 days ago

Turns out I can't count 😭

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

What math are you using lmao.

The Pound is not that much more than the Dollar (£1 is $1.35), and a liter is not that much smaller than a gallon (1 gallon is 3.79 liter).

1 US gallon in the UK would be £7.20 which is $9.73

To be the equivalent of $31 per gallon, it would need to be £6.05 per liter.

Just as Chris Wright, Secretary for Energy says that all we need to do is drive less.......
