In the original toothless is a common green dragon with one tooth. Bro’s a sassy bastard and the whole point is that Hiccup has to be the hero with a severely lacking toolset.

Well technically not quite but that's Spoilers

There is a book?! Nice, imma go find it

[–] frog@feddit.uk 20 points 1 day ago (6 children)

I have not seen the live action version. Was it good? Was it necessary?

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 1 points 23 minutes ago* (last edited 23 minutes ago)

There's a live action version? I just assumed the middle screenshot was DLSS 5.

I mean, there's a >0 number of good live-action adaptations of animated shows. I've heard mainly good things about the Netflix One Piece show.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 1 points 22 minutes ago

If it's so good, then why is there only One Piece of it? Why not a Second or Third Piece?

[–] LostCarcosan@lemmy.today 12 points 1 day ago

It just struck me that the 'live action' version of most movies are still like 90% CGI... Really the only thing not computer generated are the actors and even then, only mostly. What's even the difference at that point?

I appreciate you saving me from watching this. Lol

[–] randombullet@programming.dev 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It also missed a few vital scenes. They cut down the movie to fit within an arbitrary time limit.

I'm flabbergasted that they found a way to do a shot-for-shot remake wrong.

[–] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They intentionally wanted to make the shot-for-shot remake fail so they can point at it "still failing" and continue to ruin more remakes.

What? That makes no sense.

[–] degen@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago

Did they know the original is shorter?

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

It was good. It was almost a beat for beat, scene for scene remake. The only scene I specifically noticed being omitted was the one on the beach with the small dragons.

It was almost like DreamWorks was telling Disney, "Hey, this is how you do it. Keep the story the same, and it works, dumb mouse."

Could make a "DLSS 5 on/off" meme with the top two pictures.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 2 points 21 minutes ago

Because I'm too ADHD to read post titles, I literally thought that's what this was at first.

[–] Master167@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

And here I was looking for the source in the comments.

[–] Shipgirlboy@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago

First two are "How to train your Dragon", the third is "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid"

[–] AyuTsukasa@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Top: How to Train Your Dragon

Bottom: Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid

[–] thenoirwolfess@fedinsfw.app 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Is the Animé a flavour of "thicc girl encourages perversions of socially awkward horny boy"? Because that's so blasé; it's overused.

[–] Contramuffin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Surprisingly no. Those 2 depicted are just side characters and actually have a somewhat healthy relationship. And the main cast is generally not that sexualized.

To be clear, the issue you point out does exist, just not with these 2 specific characters.

[–] thenoirwolfess@fedinsfw.app 1 points 3 hours ago

Going on my watchlist :3 ty!

[–] SterileSullage@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not really. Guy in the bottom picture is a minor character. The show largely centers around a dragon girl (not the one pictured) who arrives at the human world injured, gets saved by another girl who works as a programmer, and then moves in as her maid out of gratitude. Dragon girl falls in love with programmer girl due to the kindness she shows her.

[–] thenoirwolfess@fedinsfw.app 1 points 3 hours ago

Ty, that sounds super cool!

[–] NihilsineNefas@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not entirely, that artist is also a confirmed pedo

[–] Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago

Sources? Have googled a bit and couldn't find anything that paints the artist as a pedo.

I mean apart from the depiction of the characters, which is really weak as a confirmation of anything, seeing as a lot of Japanse works have the same questionable aesthetics.

That's half the male population of Japan
