President Donald Trump — whose approval ratings continue lagging — posted a social media image suggesting renaming the state of New Mexico as "New America."

U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez, of Las Cruces, in a response to Trump on X stated, "You don’t get to erase New Mexico. Not our name. Not our history. Not our culture.
The President may want to call us 'New America,' but we know who we are."

Buried at the bottom is the truth that this is satire being reported as fact by the El Paso times. It does not appear to be true.

The fact that we can be so easily victimized by Poe's Law is telling:

"'New America' map emerged as parody

The "New America" map was previously posted on Sept. 1 on the parody account Daily Noud, which posted a fake image falsely claiming Trump had signed an executive order renaming New Mexico. Daily Noud account on X states, "These are fake stories."

He has also posted a map to Truth Social. So while it may have started as parody...

I appreciate you bringing facts to an increasingly online world.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 4 points 11 hours ago

If only it were so, as it does actually appear to be true.

Damn, that’s crazy!

What’s going on with the Epstein files? Can we investigate, charge, and convict some of the pedophiles?

[–] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml 3 points 9 hours ago

Can we please have less shitposts of the fascist in chief? Fucking PLEASE?

I'm tired of seeing his disgusting ugly face looking and mocking me everywhere.

Especially because I know whatever new shit he does, serious or not, it's just going to endear him to his followers for bringing about their promised age of inequality.

Hey moron, FUCKING MORON, you're not supposed to name a part of America "New America", you name a place outside America settled by Americans, "New America". That's how that naming convention works. Nova Scotia means New Scotland. Notice it's not in Scotland, it's outside Scotland. New Mexico is outside Mexico. New York isn't part of York.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 10 points 17 hours ago

I believe the original term for a land settled by those of American descent is known as "Liberia".

[–] Tarambor@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

New York isn’t part of York.

New York is a small village in Lincolnshire in England that was founded in 1664, long before New York in the USA was founded...

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago

Because it was New Amsterdam first.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 19 points 16 hours ago (1 children)
[–] thepizzaguy@lemmy.world 19 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

[–] aarch0x40@piefed.social 26 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

25 47. It’s way past due.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 17 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

86 47? Oh do you mean thr 25th amendment?

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)
[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 4 points 16 hours ago

Amendment depends on the president's cabinet, which is never going to happen when he's stocked it with hand-picked loyalists.

Only (legal) way to get rid of him is impeachment.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 hours ago

Texas: But.. bu...but... I WANTED TO BE NEW AMERICA.... WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 16 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

I can't tell if this is satire

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 15 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

We’re living in a nightmare. Socially, economically… linguistically …

[–] AmyAye@nord.pub 3 points 14 hours ago

Can we just escalate to nukes and put the planet out of its misery so the cockroach people can thrive in a few million years?

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

It's the same as him running a 3rd term. Whatever takes the energy out of the oppositions base they will throw it their way.

The fact that people feed into it, eat it and keep covering it means he can distract even more from the real shit that people should care and act about.

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

Well it’s hard when Apple and Google keep bending their knee to suck off Trump with every one of his whims.

[–] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 4 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

The fat turd was looking at taking Iceland and Greenland too. Which one would be Americaland?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago

Some numbnuts MAGA congressman actually suggested we call Greenland "Red, White & Blue Land.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 3 points 13 hours ago

In his mind aren’t they the same place?

[–] Ramsesder13te@feddit.org 1 points 10 hours ago

Pleas let this be Satire oh Lord PLEASE

[–] Snowies@lemmy.zip 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

What more can be said about this?

The time for complaints and shared lamentations is long past.

The time for action is here. We must impeach this traitorous pedophilic felonious illiterate con man, ground his cronies so they cannot leave the country, and bring every last one of them to court for crimes against humanity and war crimes and just… crimes in general.

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Prior to the midterms, how do you propose we do that?

[–] Snowies@lemmy.zip 4 points 15 hours ago

I’m afraid I can’t say that in writing on the internet my friend.

[–] theand@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Nothing says oppression more than shouting freedom for fear of being seen not to.

Nothing smacks of facism more than dogmatically slapping the same name on everything to constantly remind the public you live under authoritarian rule.

[–] HeronHouseHamilton@lemmy.zip 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I refuse to believe this is real

[–] Flying_Lynx@lemmy.ml 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

The Nile will likely be renamed Maga-river.

Anyway, Fox News reports

[–] HeronHouseHamilton@lemmy.zip 2 points 17 hours ago

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 15 hours ago

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

I just learned there is a city named Mexico in Missouri. Someone call the president!

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Oh yeah? Where is Old America?

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 2 points 13 hours ago

There have been a few people asking that recently.
