(as a result of American actions)

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 23 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Because the US is choosing Russia and Israel over allies.

[–] CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

And even over itself.

[–] Arancello@aussie.zone 18 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Right? Like I’m going to risk a spin-kick from JCVD?!

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 25 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Why don't you liberalise a little bit, accept goods made to American standards, accept agricultural goods made to American standards?

Because no one wants brain worms or shitty lettuce.

[–] strakitar@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

Is this supposed to be facetious? Here in the good ol' US of A, we feed our livestock shit and don't give our pickers bathroom breaks.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz -1 points 8 hours ago

Because in Europe they are sub-standard

[–] FluidBeef@quokk.au 56 points 17 hours ago

You don’t prioritise a deal with a serial backslider who will break the deal by introducing tariffs on a whim. Also none of us even want chlorinated hormone meat.

[–] SoGladToBeHere@piefed.ca 70 points 18 hours ago

Yes, and so is everyone else with two brain cells to rub together.

[–] TheFrirish@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 6 points 11 hours ago

These guys should be sent back to where they came from with those brain dead statements. Their mere presence is an insult.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 60 points 18 hours ago

So what? The US government is massively untrustworthy.

Its a necessity rather than a slight - we are physically closer to EU. And its important for many reasons, not just trade.

Frictionless movement over the Irish land border is a good example. Without EU alignment that would be impossible. I'll bet most of the MAGA roasters have never even heard of the Good Friday Agreement.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 3 points 8 hours ago

Shit. They haven't heard of the good.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 37 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

When the person you sleep with shits the bed repeatedly and on purpose, at some point you change partner. What a concept eh...

[–] First_Thunder@lemmy.zip 10 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Don’t kink shame like that, you don’t know what the Uk likes

[–] Dotdashdot@feddit.uk 5 points 13 hours ago

Yeah, we’re pretty good at shitting the bed actually!!

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 34 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Good. Fuck the US.

[–] DigDoug@lemmy.world 23 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

You mean to tell me that adding/removing tariffs multiple times a day every day, and threatening to annex your allies will make said allies choose trade relationships with other countries? Colour me fucking bamboozled.

[–] Melobol@lemmy.ml 17 points 16 hours ago

I do not know why you would want to have closer relationship with basically your neighbors. Within hours, same-ish time zone - and relatively strong regulations.
Vs a temperamental manchild that starts wars on a whim and doesn't even think about keeping promises/agreements.

[–] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 6 points 13 hours ago

Yeah, try to suck less

[–] puppinstuff@lemmy.ca 19 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

If goods made to an American standard measured up to the EU standards there would be no issue. Maybe Greer can answer why the UK should lower the bar instead of the US meeting the bare minimum of quality and safety.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 21 points 17 hours ago

and why wouldn't they? Trump is a fickle bastard who doesn't keep his promises, and is corrupt as fucking hell.

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 10 points 16 hours ago
[–] realitista@lemmus.org 12 points 17 hours ago

Good job Britian. It's really the only sane choice.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 7 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Wasn’t that the whole point of having “spheres of influence”?

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 6 points 15 hours ago

More whinging from a government full of losers.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago (1 children)
[–] YetAnotherNerd@sopuli.xyz 2 points 15 hours ago
