An average gamer, and I would hesitate to call such a beast “reasonable”, is pretty likely to be at least somewhat aware of software licensing.

Sony’s argument here should be dismissed as ridiculous on its face by any judge who understands anything about how software or even physical objects work.
Well, good thing the courts in the USA are so darn reasonable.

The contradictions increase...
I had a surprising interaction about this recently. My chud relative; full former military, blue lives matter, MAGA household; told me the whole "If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing" (or whatever the line is) recently. He also talked about how people were pissed about Sony taking away physical media, and how he was joining the week long blackout that happened recently where people didn't play Playstation games for a week or whatever.
Yes, it's not much, but still, it's an incredible development from the guy who was with ICE against the protestors. Every misstep like this, while stupid to some people, gives another opportunity to expose to these people the contradictions of capitalism if they're willing to hear it and if the left can take advantage of it.
People made such a fuss about Game Key Cards... Turns out out of the biggest 4 players in the industry, they are the least damaging option (plus of course the actual carts that still exist with all the data on them).
