i'm an old person now who was a young teenager in the mid 90s.

when i was 13 or 14, i got busted for drinking alcohol after spending the day with some buddies. my punishment was twofold: i had my long hair cut short, and my dad called the cable company to block the two music channels that were available at that time - MTV and VH1.

it didn't take long to get over the haircut, but i was determined to figure out how they blocked those channels at our house. perhaps someone with more knowledge about this stuff could chime in, but i found these weird interrupter devices they had attached. they looked like little metal barrels with co-ax connectors. i could remove them, watch MTV (or VH1), and then put them back on and close up the box.

Each channel is on a different frequency band on the coax line for analog cable so the cable guy installed a notch filter for each channel he wanted blocked. Cable is digital now so that method no longer works.

Trying to figure out what MS Paint has to do with paper bills in the age of VHS.

There was plenty of overlap between the two.

  1. Scan the bill, load it into ms pain, white out the porn, add in a text box, match font and write titanic. Print out new bill, give to dad, burn original.

  2. ?????

  3. Profit.

Print it on the same paper stock, with a shitty inkjet that can't match the colors?

If that worked dad was probably involved in a gazillion online scams at this point.

I genuinely think you're over thinking about how closely someone looks at a bill. Especially 20 years ago I doubt anyone was paying attention to the stock weight of the paper, hell even now I doubt most people would. And an inkjet has a decent quality, and I remember having a laser printer still alongside VHS

So what? He scanned, edited and reprinted the bill??
