Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Anyone here a fan of Bingo Brawlers? It's a format that turns Elden Ring into a competitive PvP game where players race to achieve objectives on a 5x5 bingo board, with the first to score an objective blocking the opponent from scoring it, winning by either getting a full line or once all lines are blocked by scoring the majority of squares.

I'm completely obsessed with it since a friend introduced me to it earlier in the year. The players have amazing mechanical skill in speed running and boss fighting, but there is also an incredibly deep strategic element involved in reading the board to find synergies in objectives and also predicting what the opponent is doing and making the right strategic decisions. The top players have both elite execution and incredible board strategy.

The creator of the series, Captain Domo, is also a born commentator and a fantastic host for the games. He commentates with a rotating cast of players who are generally fine to excellent (with only a couple that I actively dislike). And in general the commentating has really improved over time, from the earlier seasons.

It's currently in the middle of Season 6 and if you get into it there is HEAPS of content to binge through from previous seasons. For anyone who is interested in Elden Ring speed and no hit running, this is the ultimate form of entertainment, imo. It's got everything great sport/esport has; clutch moments, upsets, incredible comebacks, virtuoso displays of elite skill.

Came for the novelty, stayed for the unexpectedly solid commentary and suspense. Thanks fam ๐Ÿค™

I love Bingo Brawler!

Iโ€™m not really a live watcher, but I occasionally binge watch the VODs channel.

The matches can get super intense. My favorite matches until now are the last two matches of the Season 6 pre-season 1, 2.

My favorite co-commentator is definitely Mitch. His and Domo's dynamic is fantastic and they together have imo the best insights.

I also tried plenty of the skips and tricks that they do. Some are nearly impossible to do, especially like they do on the first try and some are rather fun and easy. Here is a slightly outdated Video by Domo going over some skips.

I like Mitch (even though he talks a little too much sometimes) but Zoodle and Domo are my favourite combo, they're so funny together.

Sometimes you're bingus, sometimes you're bongus. It's the circle of life!

I absolutely lost my shit the first time they played that song in the intro, it's so much better than it has any right to be.

YES! It's my favorite competition to watch! I'm so glad it's continuing to take off, I have high hopes for them now that they're having their first live finale.

Yeah it seems like such a good group of people, I'm really happy for their success. I think there's still a heap of growth they can see in the future, its just so fucking entertaining.

I don't know this series and haven't watched any yet (I will today, it sounds fun!), but I'm immediately thinking it could be a fun thing for folk in this community to do as well

My mate who got me into it and I are currently doing some practice to start playing against each other. We've put together our own set of objectives that are more casual friendly than the BB ones and coded up our own bingo board implementation.

Watch Aggies side once in a while

I've been a regular viewer since season 4. I've never been into watching sports but bingus has me hooked!

I love how dynamic the game can be. Marking the right square (or squares) at the right time can radically shift the game in a moment. So many tense moments where the outcome of the entire game is balanced on a razor's edge and the difference between winning and losing is a matter of seconds.
