As an attempt to consolidate the few specific soulslike communities we have on Lemmy and to offer a general discussion space for people interested in this genre of games, I've created this community.

Feel free to stick around, post something, check out the communities I've tagged in the community info.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Are there any games' mechanics you like a lot and would like to see again? Aesthetics, combat, exploration? Maybe a complete change or scenery that hasn't been seen before?

For many, Elden Ring is as close as it gets to the dream soulslike. I do appreciate what ER has done for the fandom and for FromSoft's recognition in the gaming sphere as a whole, but I just don't vibe too much with the open-world approach. Stellar bosses, most of them at least, really good soundtrack, beautiful world, but just not really my jam.

Lies of P comes pretty close to my dream, actually. Sekiro is my favourite FS title and Bloodborne is a close second - Bloodborne was my first, even. I feel like Lies of P is the perfect mix between the two, so it's the best of both worlds. I'm really excited for the DLC.

Bloodborne 2 with a completely different story, still loosely related to BB of course, would be amazing. There have been fan concepts thrown around years ago where we would explore the ancient pthumerian labyrinths, kind of a desert-y sandy vibe to the game. Sounds amazing and would probably work well.

Just imagine: soulslike combat plus Naughty Dogs' stellar storytelling. Could be really cool.

In Interviews, they have mentioned that they'd focus on gameplay a lot more compared to previous games. Now, that doesn't mean is has to be a soulslike, but these do have a heavy emphasis on combat and gameplay first and foremost. And given the success of the soulslike formula, who's to say they wouldn't try their hands at it, right?

Other studios that have not forrayed into the soulslike sphere previously have made good additions to the genre: Nioh, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor, Lies of P. Could probably present good competition to FS, even.

What do you think?

Elden Ring Nightreign has cut an iconic feature that has been a part of the Dark Souls trilogy, along with the original Elden Ring, due to the a fundamental shift in the spin-off’s gameplay.

One of the ways in which the Souls games handled multiplayer content is by allowing players to leave messages on the overworld for other people to see. This can be used for good, such as warning players about Mimics or evil, by hinting that treasure awaits in a bottomless pit.

Elden Ring players had the ability to leave messages for each other, but that is no longer part of the game. According to an interview with IGN Japan (via Eurogamer), the ability to write notes has been removed from Elden Ring Nightreign.

I think they were good pseudo-antagonists for P in that they were always up to no good in some way and were good optional fights later on. They weren't malicious and evil, though, and acted rather out of desperation. They were adapted very cleverly from the original novel too which makes them even cooler. How did you like them?

It might be a hot take, I’m not sure, but I just loved this DLC. I usually like to wait before buying a game or expansion and see reviews and get it on sale, but I actually pre-ordered SotE, booked four days off work, and played the hell out of it. I still am thinking about that world all the time. The level design and verticality blew me away, the environments are gorgeous, and the atmosphere is FromSoft perfected. I specifically remember when I first entered the Ancient Ruins of Rauh and having to stop for a minute because it was just so beautiful. If you enjoyed the base game but skipped the DLC because you heard the complaints about the difficulty, just get it, it’s absolutely worth it.

Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?
