After serious consideration the multimillionaire has concluded that money inevitably corrupts and poisons.

For you. Not him, of course.

I'm from North Carolina. A state that features three professional, major league sports teams: The Carolina Panthers (NFL), the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) and the Charlotte Hornets (NBA). Nobody gives a shit about any of them. The UNC/NC State/Duke trivalry is where the real action is in this state. Carolinians just don't care about Canadian Ballet at all, and in both football and basketball seasons you'll see WAY more Tarheel, Wolf Pack and Blue Devil jerseys out and about than Panthers or Hornets.

The actual schools are falling apart while they're building new stadiums and sports complexes, tuition skyrockets while the coaches are the highest paid members of staff.

I think it's a little borked.

Dana white isn't in favor of anyone getting paid. See UFC...

The issue with money in college sports is that some schools just have a ton more money to pay athletes than others. They should take it up with the NCAA to ensure fair competition and not just remove money from college players. Many players getting paid in college will not go pro, so this is their chance to get paid for the sport their college makes plenty of money from.

Colleges shouldn’t have income-generating sports

[–] cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 hours ago

As much as I don’t care about sports, I am ok with college sports. Ideally we would have a strong social program for higher education, and even if we do get that, college sports that net profits help pay for the rest of the college. Programs that don’t make money are where many Olympic athletes come from. As long as people don’t loose themselves to it, it’s a way to get money moving. That said, I really want to see pay caps everywhere. What we don’t want to see is money getting thrown at coaches and players to the detriment of other parts of the college.

I'm glad college athletes can get paid. What's unfortunate is that it's now another recruiting tool for colleges, favoring larger markets.

I’m worried about the damage sudden wealth gains have to young brains. Also how the cash drain will affect the other parts of the college, from academic research to the janitors getting cost of living rises.

So... Students getting paid for extracurricular activities is wrong because money ruins everything. OK.

By extension, students paying money to attend college is ruining college.

For a logical conclusion: Colleges getting paid for their students extracurricular work (college sports) is also ruining college.

And Dana White makes money off of people getting CTEs.

The UFC has a long track record of underpaying or straight up lying to their fighters.

Mark Hunt had a lawsuit against them for RICO. Honestly, explains why Trump is such a fan!

Business owner thinks things would be better if workers weren't paid.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 14 points 9 hours ago

It's true but the bourgeoisie are collecting money off the players' work regardless of the players getting paid or not.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 9 hours ago

Sounds like Dana White should stop getting paid. It's what he wants.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 16 points 11 hours ago

Me name Dana. Me think money bad. People playing sport for skool no need money to compensate for earning skool more business in form of new students based on skool sport team reputation. Give all money to Dana.

In a crowded field, Dana is one of the biggest assholes out there
